Making websites for others
Published (2009-11-25 09:52:00)
( Hiya sam, I'd like to make a quick suggestion before you end up calling for help. Check your page and see if you have any "empty" quotes for links such as in a navigation menu area, most especially found in footer areas. This would be if you haven't finished and are just uploading as you go to see your changes. If the site is finished and the menus are already fully linking to locations other than blank " " then...

( I basically charge 10% of the project price as a yearly fee. So if I charged $3,000 for building the site, I would charge $300 per year for maintenance, but I have a minimum fee of $100 per year for lower priced sites. \(I have done a few charity sites also, but I still charge for them, I don't do anything for free except my own site\) Minor changes = change/add/delete email addresses, update to a text file \(I use either SSI or PHP...

Integrating VSD with HTML Editor
Published (2009-11-25 00:08:00)
( That is one way of looking at it. It would at least give you a 'reference point', kind of like looking at others sites/code and figuring out what they did and where \(one may never know why\). Be careful that you don't get tempted, while using HTML Editor, to switch from Visual to Coder tabs/mode... Doing so WILL change things within your code, and could make your page look pretty bizarre. This IS NOT a bug \(although not a...

( But what do you mean by that? What kind of transparency support are you looking for? You mentioned Dreamweaver, but it doesn't have transparency built in. You have to code it yourself. You also listed several graphics programs, but VSD is not a graphics program. , )

This means the browser can not find the image files where it is told to look, in your case in the directory "/files" . I saw this a little while ago when I looked at your site, but now I can no longer access the site. I assume you are in the process of making some changes...?
Anyway, when you are ready to proceed, make sure the directory "/files" exists and that it contains all your...

Yes you can use CoffeeCup software to make websites for others.
They can see the website while you work on it if you have web space to load the site to, and you upload your changes for them to view.
The only way for a client to be able to maintain a website themselves is either:
1 - they own the same software that you have so they can learn to make their changes, OR

Chad - I see NO reason why you would have any problems creating a site in VSD and maintaining/improving the individual .html files in the HTML Editor. Since you already mentioned the fact that VSD would be unable to process the 'changed' pages further, I think you're ok.

Those kinds of things are generated by separate services, and you place their counters in your page. Google 'web site hit counters' or something to that effect and see what pops up. I don't have any particular one to recommend; - maybe somebody else does...

The way I do it is I have a yearly maintenance contract available for my clients.
For $X per year I will do minor updates on a no charge basis. If the client does not want a contract then I charge an hourly fee for ANY updates they want.
Most of my clients buy into the yearly contract.
