Wow, a month of being a zombie again...I just started school again now that I'm on Xyrem, hoping I can actually succeed now... Something has to be done though, I would do a monthly protest too. What's one month, if we can get our point across the Jazz. Count me in. I wonder how many people we could really reach though, I doubt even 25% of Xyrem users have ever been on this site. Ideas?

Skin irritation with full face mask
Published (2010-02-04 00:00:00)
sorry about your skin breakout! It's never happened to me despite my skin sensitivity to soap products. I always and only use very mild soaps to clean my cushions - I use Ivory dishwashing liquid. If I feel there is soap residue, I rinse with 1/3 vinegar 2/3 warm water - then rinse rinse rinse with water to get rid of the vinegar smell. Any chance you used a soap that you might be allergic to? Did you do anything different??? Different...

Definitely from stimulants! But even unmedicated, I do recall speaking with a sleep doctor who said they went to the narcolepsy network conference a few years back in wisconsin and had people with narcolepsy fill out a form about what coping methods/habits they had to help try to stay awake. I could probably pull up her study if anyone's interested. Anyway, I think I recall her mentioning people singing, talking to themselves and eating...

Drew - do you have a website that shows you how to do the stretching exercises - that we could go to so we can do them correctly. Would like to know how to do them - it sounds like it could help undo the stress in our limbs - would surely appreciate it - thank you.

Nyxx and SleepySusan...thanks SO much for taking the time to give me information. The more I can read and learn before my appointment, the better. The links to other sites are great. Nyxx, they never mentioned wearing the actigraphy watch, but maybe I'll try to keep a sleep diary until my appointment. SleepySusan, I'm glad you finally found a great doctor. I've had my share of unhelpful doctors and it can be so frustrating....

Stretching Exercises for Us To...
Published (2010-02-03 00:00:00)
Actually the stretching exercises are very basic and very simple. It would be similar to any stretching you would do prior to vigorous exercise. I was told to do the stretching right before bed as it relaxes the muscles and releases some type of chemical or amino acid that promotes sleep. Evening Yoga is also recommended (and you can buy DVDs for home use). Below is the link to the exercises that I use. Obviously you can not do them all in...

Hey TAS members, need your help. -My ambien CR has given up on me after about 14 months. I havent slept since Saturday. -Asked the doc for help, he prescribed me 50mg of seroquel. It makes me tired, but doesn't push me into sleep like ambien used to, so again, no sleep but now I'm also worn out from the seroquel after effects. -I'm about to freak out after this long without sleep, nothing seems to be working. - At this point,...

As I have already posted on the Narcolepsy board, I did get to talk to someone at Jazz about the crazy high price. She kept emphasizing that the board had discussed this and that raising the price had to be done to cover their expenses of research.

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR SLEEP PHYSICIANS AND PATIENTS WHO DO NOT WEAR THEIR CPAP ALL NIGHT. If the early morning hours (3-5 am) are when there is the biggest risk of stroke and heart attacks and strokes and most patients only wear their CPAP fur 4-4 1/2 hours, Haven't most patients abandoned their CPAP machines before the most dangerous part of the night for heart attacks and strokes?

So I was told to use the nasal mask and a chin strap. I am not comfortable with this setup. I have a full face mask but it leaks into my eyes when I move. Is there a big difference between the two? Why are some told to use one over the other? I definitely open my mouth when I sleep on my back which I try to avoid. Is breathing through your nose just better? Are there any other ways to ...

My problems started almost 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. When I was around 7 months my blood pressure jumped sky high. My OB said it was pregnancy induced hypertension but after I had my son it never went away. I struggled for 3 years after that with different bp meds and then finally I went to work for a family doctor who sent me for a sleep study. I was diagnosed with restless ...

I came across an interesting paperback called " The Natural Way to Sleep" published way back in 1962. In it the author basically writes about using carbon dioxide to get one to sleep by way of breathing exercises. Bellow are some quotes from his book:

there is the link

Met with my sleep specialist recently and as we sat and talked about my memory/cognitive problems getting worse, and other things that are contrary to the myth that narcolepsy does not progress. No, it doesn't progress in the traditional way. But in practical, living life 24/7 ways, symptoms can get worse.
My doctor agreed with me, and then he said at least narcolepsy won't kill you....

I had a sleep study back in August that showed a lot of leg movement. I tried the Requip, but that didn't help. Since I didn't sleep much during my first study, they ordered a second study along with the MSLT. I just got a call from the doctor's office saying that the overnight study again showed a lot of leg movement, but the MSLT was "not normal". I had a follow-up scheduled with the ...
