The Techs can make the call to do a split study when you have over a min. of events (generally it would be the 20, some are 15). So there were 20 noted events, BUT you don't have an official diagnosis because they are not MDs. The data will be crunched by the computers and put into tables for the Sleep Physician to evaluate. When they have, the Sleep Dr. will dictate a summery page, someone will transcribe it and that...

Davebush wrote: He also told me that the plan would normally be for me to return for a second sleep study to properly adjust the machine, so I am assuming that he is expecting that. What is the typical progression? I sure hope that this was just a misunderstanding. A total of 20 events even over the minimum sleep time of 120 minutes would yield an AHI of only 10. That is surely not the recommended course for a split night...

I assume this was a typo?? Quote: O2 saturation ranged from 80 to 97% with a mean of 95%. The patient spent the entire study with an O2 saturation within normal range. And that that 80 to 97% was meant to be 90 to 97%???

Tape... what to use?

How about one of those jaw extender things? The position of the lower jaw seems to change the ease at which the lips come apart, combine that with your makeshift chin strap and you might have something that resembles a solution, or even maybe a B-rated horror monster! ;)

Sleep Apnea and ADHD
Published (2009-12-15 22:29:00)
2. I went to an AWAKE meeting a month or so ago. Director of the Sleep Center mentioned that a lot of kids are coming in with apnea, ADHD. I asked if there is a connection. He said he didn't know for sure. However, some of the symptoms of sleep apnea (inability to concentrate, for example) do resemble the symptoms of ADHD. So, there is a possibility that treatment of sleep apnea could 'help' the ADHD. No guarantees, though. Let...

Cheek Blowout with full face mask

Most people report that this problem resolves itself after continued use. That happened to me too for the first few days. The dry mouth is going to continue regardless of the cheek blowout. You should try increasing your humidity. I have mine all the way up cause of the cold right now.

Medical alert bracelet

Hello all,I was wondering how many of you wear an alert bracelet.Iwas wearing mine but then I started thinking that if I got in an accident the Police would blame me even if it wasn't my fault. When investigating Police always assume the easiest route and if they see you have a med. braclet they will say you fell asleep at the wheel.I don't want to insult Police Officers but this seems to be the way they operate.

Thank you, White Beard. Sounds like you've had serious risk lately with your surgery, glad there were no ill side effects and I hope the nerves grow back so your vocal cords work right. I agree with you regarding the mask straps and the pressure they put on the lower jaw. If not for that, quite possibly I could avert the need for a tracheostomy, I don't...

Wonderful, glad that is in process for you. Not lapsing more than 63 days is important. Now based on your young age, you might also want to shop for a private policy, HMO, to avoid pre-existing exclusions. And check the durable medical equipment benefits. My son, about your age, left a federal job with great insurance. The monthly premium for cobra continuation based...

Did you do something to make your cat mad?
It may just be that the cat stepped on it, but it would probably be a good idea to get your DME to check it out. I don't know if any of the machines have an auto shut-off - seems unlikely.
Edited to add: Well, I stand corrected about the auto shut-off feature. Thanks, glenaa11, I had never been told about that. I learn something new ...

You have gotten a hose wrap to insulate the tubing right? That helps. Also try to keep as much of the hose as possible under the covers with you. But if you're doing that, I would go to the most expensive fix of all... a heated hose... they run $150 USD and are shipped from Australia. The company is SleepZone and I have ever seen is there AU Home page and none at online ...

You are borderline without the entrance into REM sleep. Its highly likely that you would not be quite so borderline with 20% of a night spent in REM.
This should not have been overlooked especially from a sleep physician hovering around an AASM accredited lab. Shame on him/her.
And why did he give you a muscle relaxer? That has the potential to make things worse... Sleep apnea wise....

I would definitely switch to a sleep doctor who answered my questions!!!! Or at the very least provide a competent RRT, RN or other trained personnel who COULD answer my questions. And if this sleep doctor is accredited I would write a complaint to the accrediting organization. Mike,
The good news about the software is that you have the right machine for it. The soft ware you need is called EncoreViewer 1.0 Software and you also need the USB Smart Card Reader. I forget the specific type, but online retailers have it in a bundle.
There is a way to prevent condensation from building up in the hose by using a hose wrap to insulate it. If you keep the worm ...

It should have changed the pressure automagically. I would take the card and the machine back to your DME and ask them to program it correctly. You can make sure it worked If you take the machine with you.

I only offer this suggestion because it worked for my brother and he does not have OSA. Recently he was in a auto accident and broke the C7 vertabrae in his neck. When he was in the hospital they provided two pillows instead of one, but both pillows were quite soft. They placed the pillows so that his neck and shoulders were supported. He is currently wearing a neck brace.

Hi Colin,
Please, please, please do not do anything to harm yourself. I'm not on CPAP myself yet (still working on a straightforward diagnosis - appears that I may have Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome as opposed to strict sleep apnea), but I've read from many posters on this site that it can take a few months to get the full benefit, and sometimes you may even feel worse at first as your...

Get your prescription from your sleep doc asap while you still have ins. Then you can order a cpap online (cost will be less than going through a bricks & mortar DME). At least then, the machine will be YOURS.
