You'll have to upload to PhotoBucket and link back to that; you'll need 25 posts here before uploading to the forum. Sorry - necessary to stop a lot of drive-by spamming.

Welcome to the forum. Rules are to join in, be polite and play nicely with the rest of us kids. For plinking get 300 or 350 grain cast bullets. You could even paper patch some 250's meant for a .45 Colt. Load? Hmmm. Try abouit 12 grains of Hodgdon Universal Clays (Universal Clays, International Clays, and Clays are all different, just so you're aware of it).

I have used a Hopkins Allen reproduction of their under hammer buggy rifle
to kill deer. The barrel is 18 inches long. I had no problems and got an
exit wound with a .433 round ball from the 40/50 yard range. I have no data
with shorter barrels and deer.

Ouch, that hurts. I've never had problems finding ammo on the shelves right here in Texas, but I suppose if it is less popular the price goes up?
Brass production may be seasonal. I don't know which of the major retailers here will export, if any - but might keep an eye on the Midway web site.
Good luck....

In a 2.5" Bbl. thats about all that will burn. I usually shoot between 33.0 and 36.0 H110/Win.296 behind a 300gr cast bullet in my FA83. But that has a 7.5" Bbl. if you own a chrono or know someone who does start with loads as low as 26.5 and work your way up. You will quickly reach a point where additional powder nets you a very small velocity gain. Once reached you will know how much ...

UncleNick addressed this in a post or two. Short story, he has information that .380 and 9mm are made on the same product lines, typically. And 9mm is in huge demand.
That's what I remember about his post. A search might find more.
FWIW, I am seeing more and more ammo on the store shelves. Can't say I've seen .380, but can't say I've looked either.

When I first started shooting a flint lock had all sorts of problems with delayed firing i.e. pull the trigger, hammer falls generating sparks, flash in the pan then a distinct delay before the boom of the main charge. Had read numerous reports of " follow through" when shooting flint locks and this scenero tended to support that necessitity.
Chanced reading in some historical notes about ...

I used to have one some years ago. I liked it, except for the lack of good bullets that were available at that time. There are more and better bullets available now and I would like it better than I already did. I killed my first whitetail buck(Post Army) with one and it fell in it's tracks. I probably should have kept that one too. Who am I kidding, I should have kept them all ...

We've all got our favorite cartridge...the one we would hold onto if forced to sell every other gun we have. For me, it's the Model 70 in .270 Winchester that was given to me as a high school graduation present. I freely admit to being swayed by the prose of Jack O'Connor, but I believe the old .270 is capable of harvesting almost everything North America has to offer.
Where I'm going to ...

.338 Win Mag. Bullets range from 160 to 300 grains. It can be loaded up or
down, and can take anything in North America.

For cheap ammo it's hard to beat a .223 in centerfire. Any specific contests or events that you might enter? That could help narrow down the choices.

These "neck" shooters out there wound their share of deer. I can't stand to see someone do that.
Where the front leg disappears into the chest,a little high,a little low, this equals(with adequate gun) no tracking.
Besides ever had(well made)mince meat pie made outta the neck meat ?? -----pruhdlr

Often wondered about the "washed" copper bullets myself, Dan. Glad you experimented and found the results before I did!
Yep - any idea of using a soft lead bullet in a Tupperware handgun needs the aftermarket barrel installed.

No need to resize. You got the cases the same way the factory loading machines do. Run them through the expander die for a light flare to help seat the bullets, and that will simultaneously take care of any out-of-round problems with the case mouths, as long as they are not severely dented.
Roll crimps into the bullet canelures are best with that powder, even if you aren't using these in a ...
