And do take a look at Morgan's Altered Carbon and its two sequels (Broken Angels and Woken Furies). Broken Angels in particular has off-planet action. (I won't recommend his other books simply because I haven't read them yet. )

I always thought he wrote MR with his __ing foot but I've enjoyed the others. His sniping at journalism, diplomacy, religion, little englanders ( those who think people from other countries are being foreign just to spite them ) and war has always been excellent. 'Jingo,' could very easily have caused offence and turned out as a disaster instead of the triumph it was I'll suck it and see but I'll probably enjoy it.

Was sent this today: Unfilmable Books Watchmen, The Lord of the Rings : These are books that were commonly thought to be impossible to adapt to the big screen. That is, until a filmmaker such as Zack Snyder or Peter Jackson found the keys to unlock them. Whatever you may think of the final results, the fact is that Snyder and Jackson succeeded in translating the books...

Well, I'm not sure quite why I feel like posting something like this, save perhaps that recent viewing of The Incredible Shrinking Man -- certainly one of my all-time favorite stories, and a film that holds up quite well despite some technical aspects which look a bit dated now and again (though not as much as one might expect). At any rate, it got me to thinking about moments that I find ...

Grabbing an asteroid of dinosaur-killer proportions and nudging it gently into geostationary orbit would take a long time, a space industry built from nothing (I was tempted to say ' from the ground up' but it's more likely to be 'from the sky down') and be extremely dangerous; an error which involves it getting into Earth intercept orbit would likely be fatal for civilisation.
