How many of you are comfortable working on more than one story at a time? I have ideas for three short stories at present and I've started writing one of them. However, I'm wary of starting too many things at a time. I realise discipline is the key here, but I also have time constraints since I have a variety of freelance assignments to juggle as well as responsibilities around the home. Is it best in such cases to try and jot down...

I'm fine, thanks. Rogues don't tend to like anyone and are generally solitary. The big troll kingdoms tend to be different, though, I was surprised at the depth of culture I found there.

Well, the average self-published author sells 100 copies in the US, where there are many more readers. If you want to sell more than 100 (let alone more than 600) you are going to have to work very, very hard. Mark Robson, who is a member here (and who has gone on to success as a traditionally published author) sold thousands of copies of his self-published books by travelling all over England (easier, I know, that travelling all over...

Well, with these two it is a description of character. Just recently my cousin I above mentioned somehow managed to use my grandmother's SSN to break into her AT&T account and have cell phone settings changed, plus they've been stealing out of my grandmother's bank accounts to pay for their bills. If they didn't break the law they wouldn't know what to do. Neither of them can hold any kind of honest job...

Thanks Taltos. I do have the time to read but not as much as I would like; though I do have the habit of taking time off work and not doing anything but read. Also tend to read through the night and almost all the time on weekends. My parents have taken to calling up once a day if they are away to tell me to 'eat now' and we will call in a while to check.

For people I can't think of names for, they get placeholders until the whole thing is done. Usually while I'm mulling over things a name will pop into my head (or, more usually, I'll think of a reference to something and a suitable name will apear) and I can do a global find/replace.
I write a lot about characters called Bob, Jim, Sue and Tim as a result.

The problem is that there's too much legend ant too little historical fact for there to be anything other than opinion on this matter, and some of the opinion stinks.

Theory: Coldhands= Benjen Stark, Three-eyed Crow = Brynden BloodRaven Rivers I've been re-reading some chapters. And somehow it came to me that Coldhands may be Benjen Stark, and the three-eyed Crow Brynden BloodRaven Rivers. Thing is i have nothing to really back it up. Except perhaps how BloodRaven was once a Lord Commander on the Wall, and that there where rumours of sorcery ...

The Asylum *as before, a pinpoint of light appears in the void. the light swiftly expands, walls appear and take on substance even as they grow to support a massive structure, a room nearly the size of an assembly hall, with a mixture of architectural styles, from moorish and arabesque to something nearly resembling a frank lloyd wright nightmare or piece of frank r. paul art. in ...

Is Science Fiction a form of 'Geekery.' In accordance to popular belief i believe reading sci-fi to be somewhat 'geeky.' Yet my dad does not think so. So i thought it would open a highly rancourous debate(as it did in my household) in that: Do you beleive Science Fiction to be 'Geeky'?

Finished Blood of the Mantis by Adrian Tchaikovsky - it was OK, I doubt I will continue the series though (unless I pick them up cheap!)
Have just started on Nights of Villjamur from Mark Charan Newton - few chapters in and I like it, pretty sure it was a recommendation from someone on this forum too!

Yeah, Spiderman II was average, but I thought the 3rd one was among Marvel's better efforts (except for the Sandman's size at one point; I don't ever remember him getting that big in the comic book). Venom, in particular, was handled very well, if one overlooks some of the usual liberties a movie has to take (where the story unfolds over many issues in the comic book).
Movies I'd avoid?

My current demon words (I can't seem to exorcise them) are "would," "could," "should," and "might." These are words that I consider pretty wishy-washy, and using them together generally strikes me as particularly pernicious.
BUT the fact is, just at the moment, my main characters are in situations where they are doing a lot of speculating, and weighing a lot of alternatives, and ...
