> That's old fashioned service! We used to get that at our local Allis Chalmers dealer when I grew up on the farm. You call and ask about a part and if it wasn't common to all the years of manufactur of that model they would ask you if it was the same one you always had. They wrote the S/N down on the front of their parts book.

> This is the kind of dealer where the owner delivers the new buses himself. When ordering a part for one of our pushers, it wasn't unusual for the fellow in parts to just ask what number bus it was (we had 4 of them, all different years) and he remembered the thing well enough to track the right thing down! You don't get much closer than that!

> Glad to see this was resolved. There are some school districts in this state that have a high failure rate year after year with the inspections. I wonder what shape their units would be in after a few years without inspections. Glad to see I can post under my regular username again.

Who do school bus drivers have...

> I must have been in my own little world when I was driving a school bus, and I actually liked it that way. I did like most of my co-workers, and I put up with managment. During the later end of my driving career, probably the last three years, I saw, first hand how a particular school bus company treated their employees like they were the lowest possible organisms on earth. I know that the last company I worked with, isn't the only...

2010 All Americans
Published (2009-10-31 22:30:00)
> I seen my fist 2010 All American FE today at the band competition in Kansas. I went and checked it out from the inside out and it looked perfectly fine to me. No caulking coming out, nice black flooring and gray seats. I thought it was a very nice bus, I don't know what happened to the one you looked at.

I can't speak on behalf of Avondale but I can say Rochester had mostly Thomas in 80's through 2000's. They had International 66 passenger conventional buses. They always bought rear engine units every 5 years for trips and routes requiring them- had about 20 at any given time (78 passenger) with luggage. They had rear engine units account for about 35-45% of their ...

Looks like it could've been a lot worse if it hit on the driver side instead of passenger. How likely is it for a pitman arm to be damaged in an accident? I remember seeing something on TV a while ago about a truck accident caused by a broken pitman arm - complete loss of steering control on the highway.
