Part-time mechanic

> Sorry but I am of the same opinion, I don't think I can help you. I am the only mechanic that takes care of 17 buses, two trucks, two vans (for a couple more days), lawn equipment (mowers, tractor, trimmer, blower, etc.), and any thing else the custodians can not figure out. My job sounds hard but I have been blessed with good drivers, good administration, decent board, and a good fleet. I also get sub drivers when someone is sick or...

They had an agreement with IH it buy parts from them and not be a dealer until a local dealer got bent out of shape about it. Now they buy parts from a dealer out west that caters to them. What the heck profit is profit right. I don't think...

The county next to me purchased them from '00 until '06. In '06 they got C-2 and '07-08 Vision and IC. '09 I see Thomas EF is back on the road. I hope they leave the body design alone and let it look like a sturdy School Bus instead of a Tupperware bus.

GM 366 engine run on at shut down

> I noticed in another post that there are few GM 366 engines still running out there. After the latest round of Cat engines[2008] I would love to have them back. Back to the purpose of this post. If you are running a carburated 366 with a problem with run on at shut down, the fix is simple. The ignition wire to the alternator regulator is a nichrome wire, high resistance to prevent feedback into the ignition circuit. The HEI ignitions used...

"District officials say bus drivers check their buses after every run, but sometimes the buses go on several runs a day and don't have time to check." The first part of that statement is a lie because obviously that wasn't the case for Darryl. The second part of that statement...It takes fifteen seconds--if you are slow--to check your bus. Are they trying to tell ...

I get some stuff from the janitorial staff here that is called Lift Off. It works really well. I have to confess though, we don't have very much of a problem with Vandal Marks. I'm not sure where this stuff comes from. I think maybe they get it from Zep. The company that makes it is Motsenbocker Advanced Developments, Inc. San Diego, CA (from back of bottle) I put ...

I was curious about this system. I know a guy in th autoshop that used to do propane carbeurator conversions years back. He tells me it's absolutely impossible to inject liquid propane into the ports. This would cause an explosion, no way it can be done...etc. It MUST have a convertor. I really don't know how it works myself, but I was under the following ...

My free PDF site went down. I had all the diagnostics on there. I still have the PDFs on hard disk. Check and make sure the brake-lamp switch is working. 2nd bus check brake hoses. Not only will they keep a caliper stuck, they can prevent flow to the caliper, if collapsing.

Yes, we have two of the Ventech liquid heat generators, they make an impressive differance in bus warmup time. One of ours is on a 2008 VT365 and the other on a 2010 MaxxForce 7. They easily mounted above the alternator where I assume an OEM A/C compressor would have mounted. They are thermostatically controlled and also have an on/ off switch if you don't desire ...

I like our CATs very much since they have been reliable and very powerful, but YES, they are VERY hard to start in the cold. If you have a weak battery, forget about it. You won't be able to crank them enough. The last time I killed a set of batteries cranking a C7 it was only barely below freezing (previous driver forgot to plug it in over the weekend). My 8.2 ...

Depends when the bus was manufactured. a lot of "2007" buses were actually manufactured with 2006 engines. In that case it would powered with a VT-365 engine

The only big problems we had at First Student with the VT365s were turbos and head gaskets. After replacing those they seem to be fine. We dont have any with 100,000 miles yet, so maybe its still to early to tell.
