I recently bought a used Lyle Jamieson Hollowing Tool, supposedly Complete with laser. Well during shipping the box tore open and a bunch of the pieces were missing. Making a claim with the USPS but it was only insured for what I paid, $250.00 NOT the replacement value, so in the end this things gonna end up costing me more than buying it new now. ...

I discovered the hard way just how sharp my chisels are. Last Monday afternoon, I managed to push a 10mm (about 3/8") wide chisel all the way through my left thumb. I was trying to pare away a small square of plywood on the edge of a sheet when the chisel slipped off the edge and literally dived into my thumb. As I staggered away from the bench I knew I had cut myself badly, but I was ...

Hi All, After yet another incredibly frustrating episode with the sandblaster I have decided that our relationship in it's present form is over. If I never see another piece of photo mask resist it will be too soon! However, maybe it's possible to salvage something from the wreck. I'm sure that I have read somewhere on these pages that it is possible to use vinyl cut with a plotter ...

This has probably been covered before, but I'm curious still. How big is your woodshop and how big would it be ideally? Do you have the usual wood tools, or is there room devoted to something special?

I'm about to build the NYW jewelry box and was about to order the hardware. The hinge the plan refers to (Rockler Item 62808) is no longer available. I haven't been able to find another 3/8 by 16" long stopped piano hinge elsewhere. I was thinking that http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=2&ca t=3,41241,41264,46487&p=46487 ]quadrant hinges[/url] would be stronger anyway,...

I grew up watching my father create beautiful things without all of the big tools I have today. He had a circ saw, jig saw, chisels hand planes and a few others but that was it and he made some of the most precise and well made furniture and various other things. But now he is really starting to indulge himself after getting all four of us off to college or married. So when he had ...

OK I started on my cabinets for my shop this weekend and now I am wondering if I am about to screw up. Let me explain. I was planing out some wood with my bench top surface planner. I was doing this out in the garage and had my Grizzley duct collector hooked up to the planner via a 8ft piece of flex hose (4"). Several times the dust collector would stop up right where the hose joined ...

In my interest to turn large bowls, and not having the money for a $1000 plus lathe, i was wondering if there's resources out there on homebuilt lathes. I have an uncle who's a machinist so he can be a go to guy on how a part should be designed. I was thinking of just having a block of concrete cast in a plyform in the lathe's final resting place. Have (4) 1/2" all thread rods coming up and ...

Ok, I sort of lost it today... First let me preface today's freight debacle with my previous freight experience. Bought Grizzly G0490 8" jointer a month ago. Scheduled freight delivery appointment for 10-5 pm one day and took a vacation day to be home for delivery. My girlfriend called the freight company that morning and confirmed that it would be delivered sometime in the ...

I was walking around Lowe's yesterday. They have started receiving the new Porter Cable tools. They have not yet put displays out so I could not see or feel the tools. But they had the old model circular saw next to the new. The old model was $125 the new $59. Combine that with the fact the Black and Decker tools were flushed out and PC now sits in that shelf space. Is the new PC tools...

After dabbling in ww'ing for several years and having finally realized that I will probably never have the space or the money to acquire high-end machines (I consider a $1200-$1500 table saw high end), hence limiting my productivity. Probably more driven by the fact that my wife has given up on me producing anything useful for use around the house in a decent time frame Any way!...
