"The Legs" - Again!...
Published (2009-11-07 22:29:00)
Been gone for a few days visiting my daughter and grandkids, and have not had any shop time. Prior to leaving, I had completed the faceted portions of the legs. Today, after a bunch of honeydo catchup, I decided to sand out the legs, apply a coat of BLO, and shellac. This probably ain't much to you guys, but this is big time stuff for me!! My first semi-finished pieces!! Finishing on the lathe is sweeeeeet! I sanded to 400, and 000 steel...

Disk sander and PSA sand...

I bought a Grizzly 12" disc and OSS and it works great! Question? How do you remove sand paper that has PSA? Will using a heat gun help?

Grizzly Drill Presses
Published (2009-11-07 23:58:00)
I noticed that the 20" drill press in Grizzly's Christmas flyer has a low speed of 210 rpm. The SMALLER drill presses go down to 140 rpm. Since the larger drill press SAYS it will drill a 1 1/4" hole in steel, and the smaller ones will drill a smaller maximum hole, which DO NOT require the drill to go as slow, why does the larger D.P. not go the slowest? It takes a very slow speed to drill large holes in steel. I've...

Just thinking of the happy-go-lucky ways of Mister Rogers and how he really should be here right now. The left half-inch or so of my table doesn't engrave with as much power as the rest... very frustrating.

A Weeks Work
Published (2009-11-07 20:53:00)
I'll join Jim in congratulating you on getting it done in a week. I realize that is basic framing with probably no insulation or interior wall but.. that is still a chore to do the frames.. tresses.. hang doors and windows in a week by yourself. And then add a porch rail and floor. Nice and very timely as you apparently didn't waste any!

it'd take some time and money to get it in workable shape... if I was in a more permanent situation with my shop I'd be on my way.... I'd only want to move it once though...

I do throw them out, except for the one Festool (and only) case I had....I sold it. I'm told those tool cases are popular at yard sales, as well as Goodwill. But my first line of defense if to try to buy the tools without them, pretty much not possible anymore.

I understand what you are saying and agree with you that it is a problem. I am just not sure why you think that your particular thread will be such a giant headache, unless you believe that a bunch of people will jump in and post that just because it is POSSIBLE to shaft a tool company means that it is OKAY to do so. In that case, THOSE are the people that should be banned.

Now for the glue up, This is where the I-beam comes in handy. The rails and stiles are clamped to the I-Beam making the laminate completely flat.
After the glue up, I joined and planed the rails and stiles completely flat and straight, and to final thickness.
The top rail will be arched, so I had to make a template. I used 1/2" mdf and cut the template.

I just cleaned my WWII with Simple Green yesterday. I take a little Simple Green in a can and dilute it with the same amount of water. Then I take a stiff nylon bristle brush (the kind that looks like a big toothbrush) and dip it in the solution. Holding the blade in my hand or flat on a table, I flip the brush so the solution gets onto the teeth. (You could dip a sponge or rag and dab it on...

I am not sure I understand this situation. My shops have all had concrete floors, as have my garages. The only brooms I have ever used are the cheapest decent handled broomstraw broom I could buy - $10 or so. I also use a push broom - also the cheapest one I can buy. The one I have is probably 25 years old. I can't tell that there has ever been damage to my floor?!?!?

Thanks!
A router would be the easiest if you have a circle cutting jig. A lathe is pretty much out of the question unless ...
