Living with the Hirsch Aero
Published (2009-11-14 00:17:00)
There were Nexen tyres on a recent loan car. Seemed fine! I've got an old picture or two from when I put the Hirsch kit on during my ownership. Here's a taster from April 2006 that I took on the day it was upgraded in April 2006:

Hi, Just trying to see if anyone has a cheap second hand upgrade ECU for a 1999 2.0 LPT manual + red injectors. I think this is the 192bhp version. regards, Spongebob

Ken Jones Saab Specialist Rugby
Published (2009-11-13 15:03:00)
I had my 2001 93Tid serviced by Ken this week and he did a first rate job. I have never used him before. Within an hour and a half of me leaving the car (open for business at 8.00am) he phoned me to let me know he was worried about a few things..........all of which had been picked up on an "advisory" at the last MOT (there was nothing in the car that would have let Ken know about these items). He had all the items needed in...

From other posts it seems like the facelift model has the fixes, not sure if this is the dash facelift, silver strip all round, or the new front but the new dash came in for MY07 and the new front for MY08. Model years start around October each year. A 2.0t petrol is a safer bet, and the car will be cheaper to buy which offsets a lot of fuel.

I bought the proper GM Antifreeze from my local Vauxhall dealer and it is a pinkish colour which matched what was in the header tank already so I assume as my car has a FSSH that this is the correct antifreeze to use.

Some of the red antifreeze I've used in the past was methanol based and gave off some strange fumes. I think it's banned now! I'm not sure what you have in your car. It may have been changed in the 9 years, but if original, it is the right colour. I would just buy some that is GM compatible. Maybe cheaper from a Vauxhall dealer than a Saab one?

I don't know if the factory fit AUX cable is the same as the aftermarket one. I assumed it was. If the wire definitely goes to a multiplug, then it's a different fit. The aftermarket wire has a small plug about 6 inches from the socket under the armrest. Have you checked whether this connector is wrapped into the loom and goes no further? Some pictures of the aftermarket install ...

Pete Surely the car is under warranty still? If so then just insist that the dealer looks at it again and gives you a proper diagnosis.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have abandoned the Nottingham trip for the moment as the weather is so bad today and I was rather dubious about the company selling the car. All the points about the diesel are well taken. The idea was to cut expenses with lower road tax and fuel costs. I am changing from a 1999 9-3 se full turbo (185bhp) so maybe a 2005-6 aero might be a better plan? ...

It's rare on the estate, but it could be a broken wire on the way to the rear of the car. Someone recently reported finding a break in the loom, not in the hinge though, in the loom near the back of the car. One of the crimp connections was loose.

Had a softwareupdate on my 2006 06 plate 1.9tdi, was to get the voice control working fully, but I notice that the customize option to turn the scale from 0-90 or 0-160 MPH is no longer having any effect. The MPH&KPH or MPH only is working fine, and everything else too. Also at the same time with the update, the DTE no longer runs right down, at 15-20 miles left it changes to refill now....

Two possibilities spring to mind: - Faulty central locking controller. To eliminate this, when the problem next happens, try using the key in the lock. If it locks OK, it isn't the controller. - Faulty alarm control unit. The relay contacts for the lock function may be failing. Most likely if it's not the above.

A few things you might like to consider before you start cracking nuts and bolts. Try a thicker oil, like a fully synthetic 5W40 Oil, such as Shell or something similar. My lpt motor was quite 'chainy' and after two changes it is much quieter now. SAAB engines at idle can be a tad noisy, and always have been. My '83-900 was even worse. That's not to say there is anything mechanically ...

Hi I assume you've checked the pinned thread with the photos? The metal part should slide over the broken shaft no matter where the fin is positioned, you just need to align the two parts. In my write-up I suggested getting the broken shaft into the 6 o'clock position simply for ease of positioning. What does the broken, removed part of the shaft look like? Is it similar to mine in the ...
