What it the world is accomplished by bringing in "low cost" free agents other than taking away opportunities from young players who are probably equally talented, if not more so? Why waste the money?

Hot Stove League show report
Published (2009-11-24 22:57:00)
Here is the Reds Hot Stove League show report for 11-24-09. Marty was the host tonight and started the show by announcing that Pujols won the NL MVP. Marty said that it would be a shame if he wasnt a Cardinal past 2011. Marty said Joe Mauer won the AL MVP. He said that the Mets are going to change their uniforms and they will be similar to the ones they wore in 1969. There evidently has been some complaining that Citi Field didnt honor the...

Buy yourself a round from the official "Redszone Chat" petty cash. Just make sure the note says, "authorized by GAC." interesting note about the Pirates WRT revenue sharing.

Quote: After commercial, the next caller asked Marty about a possible trade where you trade Cordero, Alonso, Maloney and either Dickerson or Stubbs for nothing so you free up Cordero’s salary and go after a legitimate leadoff hitter or cleanup hitter. Re: Swisher to Yankees per ESPN At some point the Reds will have to add good players. Last season many of us called for Swisher and were told the same thing-"way too much money". Well he gave the Yanks $10M worth of surplus production last season.... THATS exactly the kind of players the Reds need to target......... __________________ "This isn?t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building...

This should pretty much stop everyone from always saying "Why are the Reds the only ones that sign crap like Taveras and Patterson every year? No one else would touch that crap"
It happens. Every team signs these players. These are the two best teams in the NL fighting for Manos de Oros, who's manos are no longer oros.

That smells like making up a title for someone to appease the person for not getting a certain position, say, um, manager?

I think the important factor to consider in the article is the BABIP.
One fallacy is to suppose that the correction to the mean will all occur within one year(as James suggests it will)
I'm curious though, have there been players who had a low BABIP for their entire career?
Alternatively have there been players who had a below average BABIP for 3-4 years and then it all of a sudden ...

There are some clips out on YouTube, one put up last March of of a fan's filming on Photo Day, clippy from a Kodak camera. There are also some clips of the Beatles playing there in 1966 (a doubleheader for them, rained out on Saturday here, played Crosley Sunday a.m., flew to St. Louis to play old old Busch) and more of the 1970 Midsummer Music Festival from June of 1970 (not sure how that ...

It's kind of dull when all the voters do what they're supposed to do. Not even one odd 1st place vote for someone you never would have guessed?

Re: Reds All Time Leaders by Position (Sporcle)
I got 32, and left out several contemporary guys (last 20 years), a couple of them obvious. The hardest position might have been right field. I didn't make much of an attempt at the DH position.

Re: Bud Selig says:
Good for him. It's very hard to maintain the emotional momentum of a series when it seems like it is only being played every other day. Re: Have they dug the hole too deep?
Bad News: Reds dropped 300K in attanedance from last year, it was the lowest attendance for the team since 1986.
Good News: The Reds have about 4 Million bucks in contracts for 2012, so they haven't cut off their nose to spite their face yet, they could have some flexibility if they play ...

Re: Could we be the mystery team?
My guess would be the Brewers would be the mystery team and the Ms would get a position player
I can't imagine Morrow being on the block and the Brewers not trying to puch themselves to the front of the line.
