The Jockster has made it no secret that the Reds will be pursuing at least one big-impact outfielder in the off-season. The way I see it, if the Reds don't acquire a big bat for the middle of the lineup, the off-season was a failure. Ideally, I think this player would come from the free agent market so the Reds wouldn't have to lose players who could contribute to the big league club some time...

I do like DeJesus and although OBM is correct about his range, it's not terribly bad but definitely not ideal out there, he would be a nice top of the lineup bat. I'm thinking Juan Francisco and maybe a Josh Roenicke/Ben Jukich would be more appropriate. However I only do that if I cannot get the big bat I want for LF and then I would play him there with Dickerson in CF. It would allow us to ...

Amateur Tazawa bypassing Japan leagues for MLB By Jim Allen Special to ESPN.com (Archive) TOKYO -- The other shoe finally dropped. Since 1995, when veteran pitcher Hideo Nomo fled Japan for the majors, it was only a matter of time before a top-level amateur prospect shunned Japanese pro ball altogether. That time is now. On Thursday, pitcher Junichi Tazawa announced he ...

They are the Cinderella team du jour going against the Red Sox and their Nation. They're doing most of it with kids and a very modest payroll. My question is, can they keep it up? They don't have the big TV deal their closest competitiors (Sox & Yankees) do. They drew 1.8M this year, which is good compared to past seasons but they are going to have to draw a lot better than that to keep up. ...

It was just reported on the ESPN sports ticker that Ken Griffey Jr. has announced that he will not retire this offseason. I think it is a mistake, as he may have trouble finding a team to give him a good offer this year the way Bonds did, but he may really be interested in getting that ring.

We can use this thread for updates. Today's schedule (October 1st): Brewers at Phillies - 3:00 - Yovani Gallardo vs Cole Hamels Dodgers at Cubs - 6:30 - Derek Lowe vs Ryan Dempster Red Sox at Angels - 10:00 - Jon Lester vs John Lackey I'm really interested in seeing how Gallardo does. He looked very good in his last start, his first start since tearing a ligament in his knee on ...

MLBTR.com: John Fay says that Walt has talked to 3 or 4 of the 9 free agents and speculates that Affeldt, Weathers, Hairston, and Lincoln. Also on the site they think one possible destination for Bobby Abreu would be the Reds. They state he would want a three year deal. YIKES!

MLBTR.com Twins may shop Young this winter for a shortstop. Young didn't put up steller numbers, but a league switch and a hitter friendly ballpark might see results in the power department. He is only 23 and might be a good gamble if the Reds don't want to give the farm up for Holliday or spend a lot on a FA. The money saved on a move like this could mean a middle of the rotation...
