on my 93 the 4wd computer is behind the driver's side jump seat.. when i was a small automotive shop doing some work experience i got to help a mechanic figure out why the 4wd wasnt working and it was a 94. when i hit the 4wd button in my 93 it clicks behind the drivers jump seat. so also check there.

Hey just thought of something, (a little slow). Will it matter if the Gauge Cluster comes out of a 4x2 or a 4x4; is there a difference ? Any indicators not there in the 4x2 cluster vs the 4x4 ? any indicator difference between the earlier ones and the 03 ? thanks,

Well, you already did an excellent job of roadside troubleshooting and I'm not familiar with the late-80s Rangers, but here goes... Since there is no spark, I'd suspect the ignition module (if it has one) first. I've also heard of stators/pickups causing some strange things (e.g., shutting off at speed) even after testing OK. Being that in the heads dont have good oil circulation and the valve train suffers from it a bit. and 2. The rear main seals start to leak rather early, and gradually start to leak alot of oil. but other than that they are very good reliable low down torqy motors. I...
