Teaching?
Published (2009-11-23 18:44:00)
I'm not a teacher, but a lot of my friends are. My mom is also a retired teacher. The feedback I am getting for my area of the country is to not go into teaching because jobs are virtually non-existent. A couple of my friends who recently got their degrees in teaching, took well over 2 years to find something. (And they have their degree in specialized areas such as math and science). My one friend was a waiter during the time it took him...

The plan is to eventually end up in Cincinnati to spend the night before heading onward on our cross-country holiday tour of J's side. We should be leaving within the hour.

25 was my "I'll be out of school, a few years into my career, making decent money to where I can live a comfortable lifestyle and pay down my student loans fast" age. So, nothing like I thought. (This has been a hard age for me because it's the number I picked, early in undergrad, as my "I'll have my life together by then" age.)

I was trained as a teacher in undergrad and I'm working as a teacher's assistant for many reasons I'm not getting into now but have before on these boards. I think that's a good idea-to just live your life, be happy, and know it will happen. It's also important to continually seek out opportunities to meet new people. Go out to bars, parties, but also try out new hobbies, travel, etc. You never know when you will meet someone. The other thing that I think is important is that you really shouldn't have a definite list of what you look for-meaning be open to new people dating-wise....

Yay! Albert Pujols was the unanimous pick for National League MVP!! Why did they even vote this year? Albert did more this season than any two other baseball players put together. I don't give a damn how high Joe Mauer's batting average was--Albert still beats his ass! They didn't need to vote on it; they just needed to give Pujols the award. Here's what I don't understand. Albert Pujols is going to make $16 million...

I'm doing lots of cooking. Gonna make dinner for me and my bf (mexican stuffed acorn squash & some pumpkin tarts with maple marscapone for dessert!), then making sweet potato casserole and cranberry apple crisp for Thanksgiving. My bf is making a Kentucky Derby pie. I think while all this cooking ensues, we'll crack open a bottle of wine and listen to some tunes. Not a bad way to spend a rainy, crappy night. Tomorrow, headed...

I met a guy from an internet dating site for a couple of hours, then went to a last minute midnight bbq at a friend's place, who is moving to another country on Monday!
A good Friday night but definitely not a typical one.. usually if I don't feel like doing anything I'll stay at home and do nothing too

Maybe they like the idea of a challenge? Maybe it's attractive to them to be the guy who turns the "good married girl" "bad" for the night? I dunno. Kind of a turn off to me, regardless. Ring or no ring, anyone who hits on someone who's clearly taken (or states themselves to be so) is kind of a jerk.

Hi all, I'm new to the community. I graduated with a BA in Journalism but chose not to pursue it, although I continue to write fiction on my own as a hobby. Since graduating, I've worked as the office manager at a nonprofit for 3+ years. They cut my hours back in February 2009 but just recently offered me a full-time position again, which I took. However, I was less than elated. I feel stagnated ...

i'm sitting here pretty depressed and your post reminded me of something huge i've been missing for awhile. my first job out of college i was at for 3 years and a day didn't go by where a coworker or more didn't make me laugh my ass off.

I think having friends is a good thing. This may not be true of you, but the majority of people are happier when they have a few good interpersonal relationships with others. It's good to have more than one person you can count on if you're in a jam. Did you have friends before you got married? What happened to them?
I've had some of my friends since childhood, and I've added a couple along...

I thought I'd be friends with my high school/middle school buddies forever. I also thought I'd study to be an English teacher and that would be my career. I figured I'd buy a townhouse in the suburbs nearby wherever I was teaching to enjoy the financial benefits of home ownership. I also was hung up on the number 24 (it's my lucky #), and assumed that I'd be getting married at that grandly ...

IMO that would be an awesome gift. I'm a big fan of massages. I'm sure he'll enjoy it.
I think the facial treatment would be nice too. I've only done it once when I went with my sister during spa week in NYC a few years ago. It may be a different experience for him but I'm sure he'll appreciate a little pampering.

Well, my b-day is actually ON Christmas Day, so most everyone is quick to assume that I was short-changed in getting presents when I was a kid. Although that did happen a few times, it wasn't really the case most of the time. In one way, it was actually kinda cool to integrate my birthday celebration with the traditional Christmas family gathering. I never really felt that I was missing out on a ...

Chances are he's obviously aware of the class difference, but it doesn't really bother him, and probably doesn't care much to date someone in the same economic class. At least it's not the other way around. Broke guys hook up with rich girls only in chick flicks.

It certainly doesn't sound healthy. I think whenever a job is detrimental to your mental health, you should go. But do you have another job? Will you be ok unemployed? Remember that this is your life and you have to worry about yourself. If you've only been doing this for a brief period and it's already making you ill and depressed, it's probably not the best situation. But please don't put...

I've been out of school for a year and a half and since then, I have had three jobs! As if this didn't leave a miserable enough of a mark on my resume, I just struggle in each one and can't seem to get on track.
My first job out of school was a call center. Call centers are so structured and all the structure made me miserable. I believe you need a little structure in a job, but this was ...
