Active 10 Vehicle Mount coming soon
Published (2009-11-25 20:31:00)
Indeed, car mount would be good, I may order one. As for the TBT app, no sound and very limited address input using the cursor would be big negatives for me. Perhaps a battery door with speaker?

Another HD Traffic FAIL
Published (2009-11-25 09:34:00)
This mornings screenshots. 106 incidents on leaving home, still 106 half an hour later. This screenshot taken just after a reboot before the traffic info refreshed. This one taken as soon as the traffic info synced a minute later. So, still not updating in peak times. Come on TT get your act together and sort this!

tomtom 730 help
Published (2009-11-25 21:32:00)
I use a day colour scheme called "GBNew" and at night I just set the TomTom to use that same one but dimmed. I've never found it necessary to change the colours to see it well at night.

Satmac?
Published (2009-11-25 10:17:00)
I take it that the following has been spotted in their website Shop? Quote: We are just weeks away from launching SatSYNC for MAC users. However, in the meantime, we are making our v1.4 software available to MAC users on SD card free of charge. These features include: 1. Hibernate Mode Allows you to put the unit on standby when not used for prolonged periods, meaning that when switched on again, the unit will take just seconds to get a GPS...

940 Navcore 9
Published (2009-11-25 21:43:00)
The advantage of the Blue me version is that it offers options for various vehicles based on weights and size and speed. For most car users this is superfluous. For lorry drivers and caravan towers this offers an advantage. However this depends on the roads you use being rated for maximum weight, width and speed. I have reservations as to whether the map data is accurate to determine the route based on this information or just assumes minor...

Safety Cam ov2 viewing
Published (2009-11-25 13:41:00)
TT use encrypted OV2 files which means that you can't view them in the way you want to. Neither can you view them on the TT screen. On the other hand with PGPSW you can do both.

Another HD Traffic FAIL
Published (2009-11-25 21:35:00)
What really concerns me is the lack of encouragement that they are in any way aware of the full extent of the problems. Asking individuals to send them ridiculously detailed accounts of their problems is pointless when it is clear that the whole HD Traffic system has completely ceased to function correctly especially during rush hours.

Darren - with all the updates reported in version 1.4 is it worth changing the old wish-list sticky to a new one the represents what people want now as opposed to what they wanted before 1.4 (or even earlier)?

Not surprising at the moment - it probably happened because your 940 failed to update the traffic info beyond what it first downloaded when you turned it on. HD traffic is useless at the moment. It's meant to be better and more frequent than TMC. When it doesn't update at all, you'll have to keep switching it off every 5 mins and then back on! I think they should focus a bit less on getting this...

To show the street names, tap the screen then tap "change preferences". Go to page 4 and tap "street name preferences". On that screen, ensure "show street names" and "show next street name" are ticked.
For the voices, you have to use a ' computer' voice. On page 1 of preferences, choose "voice preferences" then "change voice". Choose a voice (Kate or Simon) that has "computer" after it...

Making an assumption that the Map Data is intact, it's easy to re-install the software from scratch. It's free anyway.

They are only telling half a story here, the x40/ x50 docking connector does have pins allocated for an external GPS aerial but neither TomTom or CarComm make a mount that can use this connectivity.
As for the GPS Repeater more often called a GPS Re-Rad they were banned in the UK due to OFCOM regs a few years ago, it should be possible to purchase one from E-Bay though even though using ...

Are you still using the Garmin Nuvi? if so it might not be offering warnings if your speed is below the speed limit, also can you offer more information on the location such as town/ village etc, just a road name isn't much use when trying to locate it in the UK - Mike

Great website but some things are too hard to reach easily - how about a page with the most popular links (ie POIs, icons, etc)
Also on the RSS feed, how about a brief bit of test so that you don't always have to go in to find out what the artivcle is about?

You really, really need to ask TomTom this question. Many of us would like to have a definitive answer to it!
But before you get too fired up by it, you might like to read this on how it doesn't work sometimes!
