help doing a good mono

I think you are coming to this from the wrong angle. Quote: am really getting frustrated trying to get a really good mono shot, now to me this capture looks poor lacking in ,good contrast depth, light is poor etc....etc. The problems you so correctly identify are not mono problems - they are basic photographic issues. The way we produce monos requires that you start with a colour image. Not any old colour image, but a good colour image....

Quote: well it wasn't compatible...... I emailed Checkpoint makers of ZoneAlarm and they said an upgrade to make it compatible is in the works right now. so I turn of Forcefield when using Firefox for now, and it works perfectly. and there you have it mystery solved... I was wondering about that, which is why I mentioned the Norton thing.... I had similar problems with Norton on FF 3:5:0, and an email to Symantec got a similar reply,...

Welcome to the world of penury and poverty On that sort of money you probably can't do better. But....a DSLR with a dedicated macro lens will really get your daughter into the bugs face, so to speak. They don't come cheap - but you could look into the second hand market.

This lens will magnify when using the human eye perspective as a reference.
Human vision equates to about 35mm when using a digital camera, so any lens with a focal length smaller than 35mm will give a wider view and make it look as if you were standing further back than you actually are.
Conversely, lenses with bigger focal lengths than 35mm will bring you closer to your subjects. 70mm ...

No experience, but one or two of the major makers do portable printers.
This one only does 10x15 cm, but I'm sure there are others that will produce bigger prints.

Believe it or not I have the camera I always wanted. If I won the Lottery I'd be spending money going places to use my camera.
I'd stick with my 5d2 but would do some Safari's and visit the far east.

What editing software are you using?.... and what Format have you tried?.. have you tried the JPG yet?
There is a possibility that what you are using may not support the monochrome...

I've voted for the one with all options and blue. (But I used blue anyway).
Is it not possible to have say 2 customize themes ? 1 dark and 1 light, as I think has been mentioned elsewhere ? Not being an expert on forum themes, but can you not achieve a colour change via a general CSS setting ?
Or maybe one all singing all dancing theme, with maybe other(s) that don't have the add-ons ?

The 17-40L is a very good choice, and should be plenty wide enough on the 5DII - I'm using it on one of those. I've also owned the Sigma 12-24. It's certainly an interesting lens, but the image quality falls off at the edges, you can't put filters on the front, and the perspective distortion at 12mm is really quite something unless you have the camera perfectly level.
