I guess I'm going to go against the flow and say the first is my favorite. Love the eyes. If you can get the bright stuff around eyebrow, cheek, and nose it might be better but I barely noticed it.

A Member for Almost a Month
Published (2009-11-25 17:27:00)
Greg, I lost almost everything in a house fire 18 months ago furniture, clothes, guns, plus my darkroom, cameras, negatives, transparencies, and photographs accumulated from 1952, as a matter of fact I barley got out myself. I have just recently replaced some of the cameras and lens (some are irreplaceable). Since I am barley able to e-mail and surf the web, I plan on learning how to scan photos, transfer them to the computer, establish a...

Great photos! My jaws clench by looking at these, I did take kayaking lessons back in the early 90's , and I had a hard time, my jaw was soar for a week after those kayaking lessons.

There isn't any reason why A850 images should all be soft, which lens was
used for the shots you saw?

I have been wondering where you have been hiding. I am very happy to hear that you are doing well and have a wife that can and will help you out. Take it easy and I pray that you and your family will have a great Christmas and holiday season, Jeff

I´m no expert at all, but I think there is no problem at all with the
bracketing technique that you mention. Actually I have thought about doing
exactly that, to give HDR a try on my own with the may pics I have, which
non of them were taken with bracketing within the camera.

I don't see why you single out Dslr, it's the same with film SLRs.

Weird, could it be a light flair or reflection of some type? Ineteresting though. Nice shot of the moon especially for a 300mm zoom.

I use an rc remote on my d80. They are pretty cheap on ebay and come from Hong Kong.
They operate up to a hundred yards in the open though I recently had hit and miss results at about 60 or 70 yards.
I like them as you are not connected to the camera and can stand in any position either behind, in front, or to side to use them.

Nice shot! Love the composition and the lighting. Good separation from the BG. Good choice of accessories, though a wee bit more processing on the cheeks might be in order as the hottest portion is a bit bumpy. Over all, great shot, and much prefer the color version to the B&W.

I like the use of the "exclusion" layer to kind of posterize this. The pose and expressions are great. Two suggestions for improvement:
1) Use the burn brush to more clearly separate the blondest part of her hair from the background (just a bit along the edge).
2) Knock the saturation in the rose glasses down by 1/3 to 1/2 as it's a bit overpowering.
Excellent work though!

It works for me.
The face is isolated from all background and setting which in this case works so well because it is such an interesting face.
His eyes grabbed me as soon as I scrolled down to the pic and the enigmatic smile and character added by his wrinkles and creases make the shot.

There is no perfect solution to it all. I have three drives I back up on
but in the event of a total disaster my Final Edited files are stored at my
web site which holds full sized images. But even that could fail. Let us
know how your new system works.

Welcome to the Forum Crystal. If you still have your 28-90mm lens, I would start with that. It will work just fine on a 40D or 50D. Other than that, my suggestion would be to start with the 50mm f/1.8. It's a very inexpensive lens but it's very sharp, and has a very fast aperture for taking indoor/low light photos.

LOL.....its all me but has nothing to do with being an old hippie(though I am) nor Ernst Hemingway, nor Santa. Its just me and mostly because I see no reason to have to scrape my face every day. I actually do trim it up on occassion.
I'm just a scruffy old guy with tape on his glasses......lol

Hi Paula,
Being a huge Husker Fan I should not do this but what the heck we beat the Sooners this year.
I would recommend that you and your brother sit down and go to the various manufactures sites where you can compare what they offer. That way he can narrow down the multitude of offerings. Then go to a store and see what the ones he is interested in feel like when he uses it and ...
