QUOTE (Dart @ 29 Nov 09 13:35) We can STILL have different definitions apparently. I was waiting for someone to bring that up. We're not seeing different definitions. You are still saying it is the highest by the same definition that one of us might say Kilimanjaro or the other Everest, the height of the mountain. QUOTE The differences of definitions ARE important; knee-jerks only cause an inability to see. I rather...

And you choose to castigate me for pointing out the associated assumptions that are required for somebody else's statement. Remember that Daybreaker was the one who said: QUOTE (Daybreaker @ 28 Nov 09 12:08) we've all been around forever ... and ever ... and ever ... and ever ... If THAT statement is true then somebody limited our perceptions and abilities. Either ourselves or some other entity. Or maybe it's...

QUOTE If we existed before that time frame, then our perception had to be limited somehow. (bold mine) And I ask you again:Wherever do you get that notion that we were limited? Did you exist before you were born? No - because you weren't born yet. Simple - isn't it? That which is your conscience is based on matter (mainly your brain). Your brain wasn't in a configuration to support your consciousness before you were born (heck,...

Ban the Quran?
Published (2009-11-26 14:12:00)
QUOTE What this resolution is is a huge PR gag. It's all about getting it rejected so that the politicians of the relevant countries can go home and cry about it to their electorate. Don't think for a second that someone who makes millions by exploiting their own people every year is a devoutly religious person Like I noted earlier, the attempts at getting a UN resolution on Blasphemey, will go nowhere, first off because those...

QUOTE (GonzoTheGreat @ 26 Nov 09 13:07) QUOTE (Pattern-chaser @ 26 Nov 09 11:18) The privilege that you (and everyone) aspires to -- the freedom to express your own beliefs -- is threatened by the apparently equivalent freedom to speak negatively of the beliefs of others. No, it is not. How do you justify that denial? If you offend others by not tolerating their beliefs, surely they will not tolerate...

The real fun is in new things, and eternity means you sooner or later run out of new things. Hmm. Consider a natural number N. You can look at N's properties: Is it a prime? I looked up Linear Efficiency, Oag ,to try to come to terms with that determination, But i could find no singular or absolute definition. Of course my observation is limited, by the observation i make. So i can ask, seeking authorative definition from Oag, who makes the statement, what is Linear Efficiency as defined in the statement? The construct i sense, is undefined, and therefore its linearalism and efficiency remain in question., since...

QUOTE (Dart @ 23 Oct 09 09:32) This is just another industry caught having difficulties updating itself to the digital age and like the recording companies will find itself without a leg to stand on. They could do the same thing that the recording industry did: buy US Congress. That would put the law on their side, thus solving the problem.

People want be believe in Eternal LIfe, otherwise is they see life as meaningless, why stuggle to love your neighbour when putting a bullet through their skulls means not being woken by them at 3:00am as they pull into the wrong driveway, again, with 800watts of driving lights and Dof-Dof noise blasting it's way through your skull?

I haven't read it, and I'm not about to waste any more brain cells on Sarah Palin. I did go to Amazon and read some of the reviews/comments, and it's the same sorry bullshit we heard more than enough of during the campaign. From both sides. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm flat worn out with the whole sorry lot of them. "Going Rogue," indeed. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/...

Why not say that both worship the God of the Hebrews... but each has added their own spin on interpreting that God. One of the problems with the middle Christian religion was that it became Christ-centric almost to the exclusion of God. The Protestant Reformation changed some of that... but retained quite a lot as well. I'm not familiar enough with the Muslim history to comment, except ...

So you're worried that if I go back in time (without jumping into a parallel universe or other science fiction nonsense) and kill my grandmother when she was a small child, the universe will resolve the paradox by ceasing to exist or entering an infinite loop or something? I think it's somewhat like the relativity problem. We are "moving" at about 67,000 mph simply by being in orbit around the sun - but we can't feel it. We are only knowledgeable of it through indirect means (by science being able to look outside the map in which our senses are embedded). And that's even before introducing the possible brain misinterpretation of scientific measurements. ...

QUOTE (Steve @ 16 Nov 09 20:48) This "printing money" business is not as unreasonable as you make it sound. The various central banks/governments have always had a keen interest in the money supply and have tried to control the money supply to control inflation/deflation. When the banks were giving away loads of credit, the money supply had to be stabilized by controlling interest ...

So what if such a ban is enacted? It will just lead to something like Aesop's fables (which were intended to subvert a ban on making a mockery of government - and everyone knew it) In effect it will just lead the fanatics to think they are 'safe' while the sniggering behind their backs really continues (and now with added impetus because they have been outed as a paranoid lot by pushing ...

If you could easily discern vegtative states this problem wouldn't have arisen. so the problem is pretty much a non-issue.
