DAYUM! My heart's a pumping just watching that. Years ago I was I came across the US Women's Luge team training doing something similar. Not nearly as wild tho! I think that's one "sport" I am not even going to think about taking up!!!

I like that picture where you messed with the sky... can't wait to see the rest of Joshua Tree and points south. Sorry you missed out on 229, but 58 is indeed a weird treat in its own way. Yeah, you need a 'do over'! Glad you will visit the Scotsman and his clan again. You got him to pay for a Starbuck's coffee? Wow. (It's the girl card.)

i can tell you this. Rider in the early and mid twenties with a passion for taking long trips and rides are hard to find. Most of them are into stunting and commuting within the city.

I respectfully suggest 1000-2000 miles (more would be better) of experience on varied terrain (not just to/from work) before considering group riding. (Most groups will inevitably head to technical, twisty roads for their rides...and they will often ride them at a fast pace.) I'd also recommend the MSF course if that's not already under your belt. Maybe this is off base. But I haven't thought about these threads for over a...

Yep, I'm going through it right now!! I still would rather ride to work, weather permitting, but I haven't really had the urge to go for a ride on my days off.
I blame it on my other "newest" hobby! I would rather stay home and putter on my cars or surf the internet for more of them!! That and hubby works all the time, so he can't ride. So it is better to stay home with him and the cars! He...

I have traveled some oif the trails on a mountain bike. The southern portion is narrow single track with several technical sections. The last couple of miles heading south are narrow single track on a steep hill-side with several tight switchbacks/ Use good hand protection, as sharp yuccas grow close to the single-track. (I don't know if this section is open to motorized vehicles)

Keep in mind that power is relative to weight. You're a big guy. I think a 250 would be too small for you if your weight in any way approaches that height of yours. The best rev limiter is your brain controlling your wrist. Take the safety course, get full gear and wear it, practice, keep the testosterone in check, and enjoy the new bike.

Ok I will start it off to give everyone a template.
Hi, new here. I lived in N. CA for 40 years but now live in Reno, NV. I have ridden continuously for over 40 years, rode in CA before Helmet & MC license were required.
I have ridden both dirt & street the entire time. I ride a Harley Sportster & a Screaming Eagle Ultra Classic.
I look forward to meeting & riding with Pashnit...

Well...I guess if you're going to get hit, this is the way to do it! I'm not qualified to give any advice here since you have way more mechanical know how that I do.
But it sure doesn't sound like the kind of impact I'd expect to cause damage. It sounds like I hit my tire/wheel harder everytime I take it offroad and start banging over rocks at 40 or 50 mph.... Unless it was really ...

We made a comfort stop in Colfax in the old part of town where they have a historical building next to the now closed Colfax Fruit Growers bldg that is now a strip mall.
The reason I made this stop was in February 1951 when I went down to the Presidio of San Francisco to take my pre-induction physical and then went home to Grass Valley to wait for induction into the Army I turned down two ...

I took the course last year.
It is very much worth the money.
I practice the techniques frequently, and use them on my mountain rides.
It is a very long day. You will cover 100+ miles on the track, but you will feel great at the end.
btw - I opted to spend the night after the class rather then ride home that night. Glad I did.

Jim,
My wife is 56, she would kill me for telling her age, she last year took the Indiana A.B.A.T.E. rider training. The training is three days long. Susan had never ridden any type of motorcycle. The ABATE class was on Honda Rebels.
After she passed the class and a written exam she got her motorcycle endorsement. I purchased her a 2002 Yamaha 650 V Star classic. She has ridden a few ...
