Tokarev Polish or Romanian?
Published (2009-11-23 02:54:09)
I think that the Poles produce some of the best fit and finished handguns and rifles of the Eastern Bloc countries based on what I've seen out there and what few Polish pieces I have been fortunate enough to obtain. The Romanians did a decent job with their version of the TT-33, but it is rough looking, even compared to an original Russian/Soviet WWII era TT-33. It functions well, but not as nice looking in fit and finish as the Russian...

Favorite REAL semi-auto rifle.
Published (2009-11-26 01:05:27)
I have to point out again, that the M14 does NOT qualify, since it was originally designed as a select-fire (not "true" or "real" semi-auto) weapon. The SKS in my opinion, DOES qualify as it was originally designed as a semi-auto-only weapon. The M1-Carbine DOES qualify, as it was originally designed as a semi-auto-only weapon, even though it was later modified into the M2, which was a select-fire weapon....

I think we all have a lot to be thankful this Thanksgiving, aside from the obvious: life, our great country, our brave guys fighting in ever challenging conditions, our freedoms, friends, good times on this forum. Let each of us add some special ones to this thread. Mtn Doc is alive and doing better! He also has new respect for pavement, friction, and young girls on cell phones. I am thankful for air resistance and proper packing...

Well, I do not believe in "tricking out" any rifle, whether it is a milsurp or not. I have seen lots of SKS rifles where someone adapted them to the AK style removable magazines and not a single one of them worked like they should. Different magazines did not help either. I see a lot of ads in the local paper where someone is trying to sell an SKS with a 20 or 30 round clip, and I simply go on to the next listing. Now, there...

Even with the liberals, Kalifornia was the nicest place I'd ever lived and I will move back sometime. I was at Stanford/ Palo Alto Medical Clinic for 6 years, then 6 wonderful years in Sonora (by Yosemite, gold, not wine) befor moving to the Great Frozen Desert up here. Don't get me wrong, this is a magnificent place to live but I can't stand not riding year round. On the other hand I live in the wide open spaces, have friends...

You might try getting a set of stock springs from and cutting them down. Is Charter Arms still in business?

Chief Oshkosh, I think one of the most misused words in collecting today is "pristine." Which means; 1.Unspoiled; in its original state. There are those that take the meaning of "pristine" to mean that it is untouched since manufacture. So it's "original rust," "dirt," "cosmoline," etc, etc is still "intact." Hence it is pristine...

If they won't chamber because the necks are too fat with .3105" bullets seated why don't you just ream or turn the necks? If your figures
(disregarding the misplaced and missing decimal points) are correct, you need only another .001" or .002" for clearance. Neck turning tools are not
especially costly.
Sizing down any lead-core jacketed bullets is seldom a good solution because the ...

"Now, are you going to shoot it?"
Yes, when I acquire a proper rifle for it. In the 40 plus years that I have collected Mauser pattern rifles, never acquired a K98k. Believe a nice prewar or
early wartime would be appropriate.

I've got a leather strop you can bite down on and a shot glass, two shots before (for the surgeon).....it was in the Time Life Home Surgery book set I
picked up, no sedation needed, it's in chapter three of book 4, dealing with knee operations!
I "acted now" and got the free companion set of home dentistry books too.

Hey, Guys!
I followed this board a few years ago and then interests changed, lost track and just rediscovered it. I keep an eye on this site, Gunboards, Milsurp
Afterhours, and The Russian Mosin nagant Forums, as time allows. All are civil and well-moderated sites in my opinion, different enough to open my eyes to new
information and great penpals with whom to correspond and form friendships. ...

Even though the Yugo's intermediate action is about .200" shorter than a standard 98 action, I think that a standard 98 firing-pin spring will work.
If you go to install it, and it won't go together due to coil-bind, you could always cut off 1 to 1.5 coils using a power abrasive wheel. I think most
members who have tried it, have had no trouble with a Wolff 22# standard-98 spring in a Yugo, ...

It's doable with a mallet, steel rod, pennies and vice. However there's a lot of labor involved to get the barrel to budge. The trick is not to
mangle the front trunnion and breech face. Easy to do via that method. Rivets aren't bad. Cut the heads off with a dremel and use a punch and hammer to
smack the stubs out. The rear rivets require a drill press and 5/32 drill bit to remove. If you ...

Where is the SKS at? It is more of a rifle caliber than the M1 Carbine ever thought of being.

How about RD Bailey?
It's been a long time since we did one there.
All of the locations are a good distance for me to get to, but that one is closer than the others and maybe we can even see George and son again.
But anywhere is OK with me as long as gas stays under $3.00 per gallon.

I'm in that same Left Coast situation.
Been seriously thinking about a Bullet-button configured AR-type in 5.56 for my oldest son and myself (his in M4 config since that's what he plays with on
weekends and mine in a retro A1-look). Thinking of building the lowers from stripped S&W 15s.
Later, I would like to do a .308 AR-10 type lower and mate it to a .338 upper.
We are gaining ...

Outfielder, POF did FTR many a No.4. New production POF No.4s may contain small parts from every other manufacturer. I'd easily pay $250 for one.

In the later war days, these laminated, brazed-together trigger guards were introduced by several makers.
Your Carbine is a typical rebuild with the original flip sight replaced by a later style stamped adjustable, and a bayonet lock added. It has the original type
flat bolt and the later flip safety, a non-M2 magazine catch and a earlier war operating slide.
