something like this was bound to happen. in the case of the US, they are consuming more that they are producing. if it were an isolated economy, that would be different. supply = consumption and currency is a convenient way of exchanging value. but since they are not isolated and are drowning themselves in imports, they have to pay for it somehow. their exports take care of some of the bill....
