You cannot be a top team if you cannot play in sporting pitches. I recommend 3 solutions 1) Producing more seaming pitches in domestic cricket (cliche)...

Start delayed due to rain The most interesting part - the West Indies team. See if you can recognise any name: West Indies squad FL Reifer*, DJG Sammy, RA Austin, DE Bernard, TL Best, K Brathwaite, AS Creary, TM Dowlin, KR McClean, NO Miller, NT Pascal, O Phillips, DM Richards, KAJ Roach, C Walton I wonder how many will be making their debut. All 15?

Dileep Premachandran Thursday 9 July 2009 13.51 BST guardian.co.uk An engrossing opening day for an eagerly anticipated Ashes series. Compared to events in Galle 48 hours previously, though, fans at Test cricket's 100th venue were treated to pretty pedestrian stuff. Though you wouldn't know it unless you logged on to Cricinfo, a potentially terrific series is being played in a ...

The 3rd day not far away with the match pretty evenly poised, Pak has a lead of 50 with each team having a full second inns left. It is there for the taking for either team. Pakistan would be looking to chase no more than 200 in the final inns whereas Sri Lanka would like the lead to be near 300 by the time they finish their 2nd inns. Another crucial day in store.

To the Pakistan team: Your mission should you choose to accept it, is to get off to a decent start without loosing any wkt, say 40 or so runs and cruise to victory without any alarms or nail biting moments. This message will self destruct in 90 minutes and here hoping that you dont. This shouldn't be impossible.

Right then, this game starts in less than 2 hours now...although this has been touted (correctly so) as a fairly meaningless ODI series, another defeat here for India following their mauling in Jamaica would put huge pressure on this team following the T20 WC debacle. Should be interesting!

After a very credible draw largely down to some great performances from Wahab Riaz, Azhar Ali and Umar Akmal, Pakistan "A" face another stern test against Australia "A". The match starts in around 5 hours time.
