If all you are after is a standalone backup scanner, try Malwarebytes Antimalware. Excellent product, it is free and does not interfere with anything as it does not have any realtime protection.

I found 3 AVG Free drivers and uninstalled them. I also saw 2 from Avast when I had that on my system a while back. Ok to uninstall them?? James

Awesome, as I had anticipated. I've had some of my own issues with IE8 (If you use the center button to open a tab, it'll freeze my system up temporarily while it launches. I visited a that the browser defender marked as safe yesterday and i thought that this was incorrect. The site was ( www.zango.com ) The downloads from this site are dangerous and contain different types of adware and other viruses.

Something as simple as firewall access solved my problem with smart update.

because smart update would not work at all. This solved that issue.

Could you please do the following:
1. Restore - make sure the problem is fixed (if it is fixed, this means RM removed something from your PC).
2. Run another scan with RM -> and this time do not repair
3. Attach the log file with your next reply (located \Program Files\ Registry Mechanic\log folder)
Could you also confirm whether you can recreate the problem everytime? Does it occur ...

Not sure about the FP, but try this.
Ctrl panel, Java, temp internet files, delete files
I also recommend unchecking keep temp files on my computer.
See if that makes a difference.

Hi Old Ted,
I could only recommend to download the updates on another PC and transfer the database to your PC. I can't see any other alternatives. Our signature database has increased due to all the malware that is out there and in order to protect against these infections, we need to continually update our database signatures.
