You need to read the installation instructions for each one, they are not completely self-installing. The chipset drivers must be installed first.

I think Vista, in its present state, is not as bad as its current reputation.

I believe they are intellitxt ads. Try adding "intellitxt.com" to the your filters.

Have you installed all the appropriate drivers for your video card, etc.? That could be causing some choppiness and interaction issues. I just made the switch last night and everything is smooth as silk. Boot times aren't 15 seconds, but they're not horrible either.

All you can do with a name brand computer is max out the ram, replace the power supply with a stronger model, and add a video card. If it has all of a sudden become VERY SLOW and is crashing, you probably have software and/or malware issues - which a total wipe and reinstall will take care of.

Use a quality antivirus program that has a link scanner - such as AVG. Scan frequently with multiple anti-malware packages, but only install ONE that's memory resident - such as AVG. MOST importantly, use common sense! If you are looking for porn or "free" stuff that you shouldn't be, NOTHING is going to protect you against stupidity.

Go to support.dell.com. Get Started Drivers and Downloads Choose by Service Tag, enter your service tag number off the barcode sticker on the back of the computer. This will give you the drivers page. You need chipset, audio, video, network, and modem (if installed).

I would also like to state the following. I cannot boot in safe mode. Running a Windows Repair is unsuccessful. No drives show up when trying to reinstall XP. I have replaced the video card, with no success. Thanks in advance.!

Given the time frame and boot up problems you're having now the first thing that comes to mind is a badly over-stressed power supply unit ( they can die by degrees). Time to spec out a new build but without knowing what video card you have we can't advise you on that.

See if you can get an i7-860 and a P7P55D into your budget. You don't need to spend more than $50 on a video card unless you want to game.

I think you are placing way too much importance in getting the last little bit of speed, and it's jacking your budget WAY up. What I personally would use is as follows: i7-860. Base model P7P55D. WD Black boot drive, WD Green data drive. DDR3-1333 ram if you are not overclocking, DDR3-1600 if the price is close to the same. ANY Corsair PSU is fine. I prefer the HX-series ...

I don't see a problem - any S/N ratio above about 8 is fine. What I see there is a phone line that's capable of handling much higher than your provisioned speeds.
