ASUS' name is synonymous with netbook laptops, thanks to its success with the Eee PC. ASUS brings that experience and success to the desktop space with the Eee Top ET2002 ($599 list). The ET2002 is a 20-inch widescreen all-in-one nettop PC with a dual core Atom processor, Nvidia ION graphics, and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi—all at an attractive price. It isn't quite as inexpensive nor as full featured as rivals; however, the Eee Top...

sehlat: The display says I've got "8.3GB found - 35,704 files" in a directory tree I'm inventorying, but there's no count for each file type. All it says is 3.2GB .pdf, 1.3GB .jpg, etc. etc.  I need *counts* by type, please. That's an interesting request, I'll try to add it for next update Bruno

"...was the penultimate nail in the coffin". I stand corrected.  I said the "last" nail. <g> (Extra credit for properly using "penultimate" ;-) "...pcmag . com becoming a 404 error..." I think it will wind up like the old eWeek forum .  Still there, but in read-only mode.  This way they still get the search engine traffic from the accumulated threads....

cbmann: I get something similar. It loads and runs fine but several times a day I get the same pop-up as Murray for different programs that I have delayed. I go back and delay them again, but the pop-ups persist. What programs?

... as of today, 11/01/09, this place has definitely become a ghost town! I guess we knew it was coming - the writing on the wall was evident and reducing the forum link to (literally) the LAST item on the home page was the penultimate nail in the coffin.  Truly, I am waiting for that one day when I go to pcmag.com and the forum link is suddenly gone.  That day is coming soon.  At that point, pcmag.com...

Sascha, I agree with you regarding what is driving the market. I also think the younger demographics who purchase smartphone have better hearing than baby boomers. Actually, call quality is not a problem for me, if I want to make or receive a call whereby I need excellent voice quality I use my reliable Motorola E815. I think other than the voice issue, smartphones are great. I use my smartphone daily and considering the Droid....

Hi. I did a bit of googling and turned up some hints about this elusive file extension! It seems that certain (porn) sites change the extension on the fly as some kind of way to stop you playing the files I suppose. The solutions I read about were: Change the file extension as it is simply a typical video file format but with the fid extension instead of the correct one. The most ...

I'll make this simple : GET THE APC ! In truth, it's not the most expensive. More importantly, MS has specifically designed the power management parts of the OS to work with APC UPS's. (They have some type of agreement). And overall, there are few problems with the Windows-APC combination. Most importantly, make sure whatever UPS you get is an "on line" type. What that ...

It's interesting to see good ideas reinvented. For example this PCMag's latest utility, (Jan 27, 2009) WinSizeMe a utility that enables you to set the position and size of windows so that at any moment you can adjust a program's window properties, and also have those properties remembered the next time the program launches. I remember downloading a similar program, Winsize v1.6, to help me with...

I've never had a problem installing 3rd party hard drives in any Dell computer and I've probably repaired thousands of Dells. The only manufacturer that might have a problem is HP. Some HP's require the hard drive to be tattooed using a special HP CD.

It would help if you told us the make and model of your laptop, and what OS it's running? I don't know why Device Manager is identifying the drive as a "SCSI Disk Device". It most certainly is not. And yes, it's most assuredly a 2 . 5 inch model. The problem is most new laptops come with SATA drives. So no one still makes the older PATA types (formerly called IDE or just ...

A really good idea but immediately I have a problem with the Manager Window. The background for the choices and dropdowns are dark blue text on an essentially black background (on my monitor, but not that way in the Help file). I simply cannot see the choices nor can I find a way to change the appearance. Help please.
