I used early '80s Dodge Ramcharger outers. Five on 5 1/2, big internal-spline hubs and pretty nice brakes; much nicer than the Waggie setup.

TSL vs XZL
Published (2009-11-03 07:52:00)
that makes sense. Do you know if one is superior to the other on the trails. i feel like the tsl would be better for extream offroading, where as the xzl's are less aggresive, but increased strength for heavy equipment or trucks. Is this correct? thanks

Quote: Which brings up an interesting question; can one be ticketed out of state for a vehicle that meets the home state regulations? Yes... as example, studded tires. I run them from November to April. However if I go to Idaho I can be ticketed two weeks out of the year. Idaho and Washington differ one week when you can put them on, and when they have to be removed. I can also be ticketed for having them on in a state that outlaws them.

I ended up swapping in an exhaust setup (manifolds back 2into-1) that had a Midas "flowmaster clone" (Ravin?) that sounds VERY quiet until romped, then has nice throaty report... A big change from the loud (& very juvenile sounding) dual glasspacks I used to run!

Well, you asked two questions here that could be several pages of posts in themselves. On the transmission front: A wide ratio CJ T-18 is the ideal swap as it will bolt in and have the correct adapters. However, these are not real common and are highly sot after so they tend to be relatively expensive. There are other transmissions that will get you lower gears but will require extra parts as in a wide ratio scout T-18, which has other...

I didn't mean to say not to use stock TJ coils, only that most of the info I've seen where a mog owner has used TJ coils they've used TJ coils that are for a TJ lift application. Here again the point I was trying to illustrate is that for a rock crawler factory mog springs are too stiff EVEN FOR A MOG, let alone in a CJ.

Here's what's in the '78 FSM. The door handle was the same as your '80. This is cryptic. I hope it helps. I have paddle-handle doors, and have never messed with the locks. doorlocka.jpg

Complete tube fenders are coming off a '99 TJ Wrangler next week. Painted dark green, excellent condition. Located in southern Indiana, will be very expensive to ship. PM me or call Austin at 812-384-5440. $200 pick up price.

If you narrow both sides of the Waggy axle you don't need to outboard the springs. I narrowed mine so that the eye-to-eye distance was the same as the narrow-track D30. With the larger D44 hubs the track is a couple inches wider than stock. That let everything go back just like stock. Most people probably don't even notice that it's a 44.

Depending on budget, but my first choice would be to go with a YJ (87-95) set up. The system is probably a bit more efficient overall and can be found used. However, the brake lines for the YJ attach to the master on the inside side (engine side) rather than the outside side. You should be able to bend your CJ lines around to make it work. Also, a CJ booster will not bolt up to a YJ master ...

The idea is to get proper lubrication. Manual transmissions and gear type transfer cases like your Dana 300, rely on splash lubrication. If there is no movement of the gears then the oil is not splashed up into the bearings.
In manual transmissions when in neutral with the engine off the counter gear in the bottom of the case does not turn as it is linked to the engine. The syncro gears on...

That's commonly referred to as a "bell-joint" and yes, they are generally greased... not packed completely full, but enough to keep the squares inside the bell lubed.

The nut might have turned a little and is putting pressure on the pin. Use on open end wrench to turn the nut whichever way it needs to to relieve the pressure and it should come out. Might use something to tap the pin out after relieving the pressure also.

Depends on Georgia law. Last time I checked in Illinois the vehicle didn't need much more than brakes on at least two wheels, headlights, brake light and tail light - just one if the vehicle was built that way. In the early '60s the local gendarmes were writing vehicle defect tickets to guys who had removed the front bumper - better quarter mile times with the weight off the front. After a ...

Great project! There are several calculators on the net. Someone will chime in with a link.
I'd suggest that you reconsider keeping stock wheelbase. The Mog axels have an extremely long pinion shaft that on a CJ5 will necessitate a pretty short driveshaft. The resulting U-joint angles will reduce suspension travel, especially if you add any lift.
Also check with BurnedBronco on this ...

They say Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan was the shooter. Said he was a psychiatrist with orders for Iraq. He didnt want to go and had been very vocal about it.

Other then the obvious tread differences, the Michelin's are a much heavier tire. More for heavy trucks say 2 ton plus, then Jeeps.
The Michelin tires are Load range G, H, J which are 14, 16, and 18 ply rating respectively. Link They will not flex much at all I would think they would hold up the Jeep with no air in them at all.
Interco tires are much more inline with the weight ...

I have some pictures but they will not likely be of help. My 80 had a completely none stock belt setup and I made my own mount. There are a few web sites with writeups that show the stock mounts sadly all my bookmarks for them have gone bad.
They changed the belt routing several times over the years so the year of engine is important. Also what compressor do you plan to run?

i'm not sure but i don't think your required to have any gauges. maybe speedo by law. keep your speed under control you'll be ok. (make sure your brakes/ turns work!)
