The difference between my "intangible difference" and yours is that mine actually shows a real difference that will result in two different outcomes if these differences are taken into account when math is performed on the number. I'd like to see any single mathematical operation performed on your "differences" that results in different outcomes. The basis for my belief is that, technically, .333......

Who was Nikola Tesla?

QUOTE (Zip @ Dec 4 2009, 10:07 PM) You do know that TFH is a novel correct? The simple fact of the matter is that people who are as eccentric as Tesla are often overshadowed by lesser men because their disposition makes them damn near impossible to deal with. No, I live in a completely delusional fantasy-world. As I said before, the alienation is true for many a genius. QUOTE Roark was written as a hero and the novel had a...

QUOTE (Alfa @ Dec 6 2009, 08:46 AM) Social ability is essential for connecting and interacting with people, and for getting romantic relationships to work. You don't have to be experienced at sex, but it sure helps to know how to take a relationship in that direction when you want to. Experience is neither a vice nor a virtue. There can be good or bad resons for your experience. I also don't think experience for the...

QUOTE (brian0918 @ Dec 10 2009, 06:45 PM) Of course, those denying this equality will simply say that the "limit" is not the same as the "actual". The notation refers to the limit (where n -> infinity), not an actual, given n. If there is an actual n, there's no need for any knowledge of limits, it's simple algebra. So let's hope no one will do that

The BBC on Atlas Shrugged

Paraphrase: "All the main characters are the same, blond with angular jaws. Quite Arian" Let's see... Dagny - brunette Roark - Brunette (? - could be wrong I don't specifically recall) Fransisco - brunette/South American (tall dark and handsome type) Galt - Blond --- see I told you they were all blond! What crap.

QUOTE (C.W. @ Dec 12 2009, 01:11 PM) Well, I've asked twice. I'm sorry, this one line does not add to my understanding. If someone can explain Grames' point I would appreciate it. From reading the last several entries more than once I don't see where the disagreement ocurrs or why. Fair enough. I cannot grasp the perspective that prompts you to ask such obvious questions, which you have answered yourself...

The BBC on Atlas Shrugged

Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged discussed by the BBC (on March 31, 2009). It's viewed as an "economic" novel, although the host doesn't think it's actually a "novel". Some people are very shallow philosophically and it seems that journalists are typically a cut below. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/news...iew/7975404.stm They come across as somewhat humane to me.

The "How many past partners...
Published (2009-12-07 16:07:00)
Mmm, I was more aiming to rebut the idea that having casual sex is somehow a special advantage to honing the kinds of social skills one would need to get serious romantic partners. You can get all the social practice without the sex, the sex adds nothing to the social skills and any inexperience sexually isn't really a big deal for somebody who loves you once you got them with whatever social skills you may have used to get acquainted...

It seems to me everyone has given good advice so far, I would just like to add a thing or two: You said you live in Michigan? Move out of the state as fast as possible! It sucks in MI right now and it's only going to get worse. I think MI is actively losing population due to state government over taxation and mismanagement. Move to Texas or South Carolina or any other state with low taxes...

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 13 2008, 04:06 PM) While it's true that everything which exists is something , and a nothing or nil cannot exist, this fact should not be construed as meaning that if entity A and entity B are 1 meter apart, that there must be something in between them (either continuously or discretely). Distance is a relationship between two entities. It has no ...

QUOTE (Thomas M. Miovas Jr. @ Nov 29 2009, 12:24 AM) By the way, what is CMU, I don't know the universities in the area. Carnegie Mellon University. Pittsburgh area has many colleges and universities to choose from. I choose, none. I dropped out of Point Park University a decade ago, it was a private college at the time. This is the group and I think it's Epstein that they ...

QUOTE (SoldierB @ Dec 11 2009, 05:31 AM) You guys made a party in socialist europe? Why not make a party in US or CA? The US is as socialist. Plus, the US was Russian territory at the time. The deeper reason is that we could (have) gotten about 25% of congress, since it's a small country. I am, however, researching alternatives. Brazil, Sweden, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Australia, ...

1 The formation of the concept Economic theory begins with an examination of the nature of value. We are not concerned with things from alleged planes of existence beyond the universe we inhabit, so we will ignore them and discount the values commonly associated with them. The two-fold nature of value There are two senses in which the word ‘value’ may be used in economics. These are the ideas ...

Another way to think about this problem. This problem deals with elements similar to limits and infinate sequences. Lets say we are in a 100 meter race. I want to get to the finish line but would have to go the half mark, which is the 50 meter mark first. But, even before this, I would have to go to the 25 meter mark. But before this, 12.5 meter mark. Then 6.25, then 3.125... you get the point....

QUOTE (mke @ Nov 22 2009, 09:45 PM) I know this is vague, but should the "how many past partners have you had?" question be asked? Assuming you are in an intimate relationship with this person. I go back and forth. Sometimes I feel like I must know, but other times I feel like the past shouldn't matter. Let's assume that not wanting to know has nothing to do with being afraid of the...

QUOTE (Thales @ Dec 7 2009, 10:32 PM) They come across as somewhat humane to me. "Yes, well, she's quite mad with her push for freedom, don't you think?" Not an exact quote but it hits the mark. Yes, well anyone these days who wants a free market is quite mad, don't you think? And inhumane. There's no humanity in her, and one would think that if you had a pimple she would ...

QUOTE (Lagroht @ Dec 6 2009, 05:55 PM) Did anybody read this: http://www.amazon.com/Age-Rand-Imagining-O..._pr_p roduct_top is it any good? I have a copy. I've tried to read it but couldn't get past the first 60-70 pages. The style is rambling.
