The inverter is usually situated at the bottom of the LCD frame. I don't know how you can test it, for me black screen = bad inverter = 99% of the time. That is providing that your GPU works http://www.lcds4less.com/laptop-lcd-...ructions.shtml Picture before last, that's an inverter. cheers ...

I don't even care about flaws. I tend to try to look past them if they're not too annoying or obvious. I'm just bored.

sounds like a bad mainboard. try pressing firmly with your pal just to the left of the touchpad. then turn the unit on and see if it works. it may work, if it does don't move the laptop or it will probably fail again. one of the chips on the mainboard is probably loose or going bad.

Use the firewall that comes with Vista, its a good two way and its free. Use Avast for a Antivirus program it too is very good and its also free (you just have to re-register it every 14 months or so) They will send you an email to tell you when its time and provide a link to go to re-register (easy). Make sure that whatever AV program you have on there now is completely removed (uninstalled) . You will have problems if you try and install...

Thanks for that Well, just a recap of the things i'll be buying for this project, to get some final thoughts :P - geforce go 7950 GTX from ebay, $200 - a T7600 new* from ebay, about maybe $220 - Corsair 2x2GB kit PC-5300 from amazon, $86 - Dell PA-13 130W power adapter from ebay, $15 * I can get a cheaper CPU if it's used, but I rather buy a new one. It'll probably be just above $500, which is the price of a cheap laptop. But I...

One question. When you are getting these issues are you using IE8 in compatability mode or is it running straigt as IE8?

Ya know what really pisses me off the most is I've had my mobo replaced 2-3 times and vid card going on my 4th.
Best Buy will consider it a lemon when it has had the same thing fixed for a 3rd time and will exchange it for a new product.
With all these issues I just want to get this thing replaced with something that doesn't break down every 6 months.
It's frustrating as I use this for...

seems like there are a LOT more than 1 thread i'm just getting ready to research them as it looks like my marketing/graphics person better just be happy with the precision notebook! LOL. I have like 15 tabs of different threads claiming problems and that is just in the last 4 days of started threads.

Last thing I would try is replacing the CMOS battery. A long shot. And after that I would write the comp off.
Hopefully someone else has more ideas.

Clevo M860ETU / Sager NP8662 First Impressions

After over 2 years of daily usage with a Dell XPS m1710 laptop, taking it through task with academia, gaming, day-to-day work, etc., I had come to the conclusion that I wanted a performance rig, without the sheer size of the 17” profile. When a friend of mine referred me to Sager, I was hesitant using a small reseller / OEM to ...

Can't duplicate your issue tgbrindley. We use the 32Bits and the 64Bits IE8 at work, with the latest updates, and have not experienced any issues, yet.
Can you expand as how/when of the crash conditions?

Go to the main page of HP, choose configuration on your model and it will tell the different CPUs that you can pop in.
I don't believe that you can swap out GPU on HP machines without replacing the motherboard. As far as swapping out the board with another "model", it can be tricky and many times not worth the effort. Might as well getting another notebook altogether.

anywho, remove the hdd cover, removed the hdd, transfer the bracket and reinstall.
as for putting ubuntu on a thumb drive, it is possible. might want to do a quick google search for a utility, I am sure there are some out there.
also, might want to check out the netbook version.

I'm not doing a WinXP version of this driver as I've decided to relegate WinXP driver updates to every OTHER driver. Let's face it, XP's showing its age, and it isn't nearly as important as it once was, especially with Win7 being as good as it is.

I can't speak to the FX-1600, but a C2D processor will work. I had a T2250 in my laptop and put a T7200 in it and it worked fine.
