If it's sea coal, then you're very lucky indeed Chickadee, burns clear with very little ash, and extremely hot! A mate and I picked up 2x50kg bags at St.Andrews bay after a NE storm which heated a normally difficult to heat farm cottage toasty warm!. Gathering sea-coal used to be big business in the NE of England IIRC! Mike.

Lit it easily tonight! Well impressed. Thanks for all your help people. Really great advice. The stove is mulit-fuel and the grill has no way of closing it off so some ash does fall to the ash pan.

Hmm, I was recently thinking about moving my compost bin closer to my greenhouse, I think that move will happen sooner rather than later, I think you can see where I'm going with this one...

Not heard of them making saws, but there are a selection of cheap saws about for around that price new. Check it's not one of those.
On the whole, for cutting logs at home, I'd tend to suggest an electric chainsaw. Cheaper, quieter, less smelly...

Only just had a wood burner fitted.
Got up this morning and the room stinks of burning!! Is that normal? It is quite bad!
Flue was checked for draw and was great.
Didn't have fire burning last night either, just bits smoldering (Wood)

I am about to fit an Oak Beam fire surround and wanted some fixing advice.
Picked up the Oak surround today, It is in 3 large pieces, 2 legs and one mantel. Quite heavy too as the mantel is 64" long and 5" x 5" thick.
The walls around the wood burner are not straight at all so the fire-surround will have to lean back by about half an inch!!
Now the fixings. The guys who made...

Need some advice about how to get a good fire going in a woodburner.
We lit it for the first time today but didn't get to much of a fire and eventually went out.
What is the correct procedure to light a woodburner please?
How should we layer the wood, paper etc etc. Thanks

We never keep our stove/s alight all night, it's no problem to relight in the morning and the stove stays warm for a long time after we've gone to bed. We open the doors through to our bedroom and bathroom (ground floor) so some warmth spreads through the house. This morning at 8am it was 5.5c outside and 17.8c inside. We don't have any other form of heating.

This is in no way a criticism of the new forum, but it is my understanding that the music section will not continue, so while we are still here and I still have the volume control we are going to have a farewell blowout of all things good and loud.
Commencing today with Motorhead singing Ace of Spades on the Young Ones. What better way ...

avoid blackberries. And raspberries. And any berries which comprise hundreds of little individual nodules each containing juice - unless you mash them into a puree first.
Mango is particularly good quieter as leather or in chunks. Pineapple is great. Beef sliced thinly and marinated is delicious. Strawberries are good. Citrus fruit are not.

In light of the fact that the music section is seemingly coming to an end, and in honour of the blood sweat and tears I have invested in steering a course away form P*** C****** and the metallic joy that has been brought to the hearts of many members who might otherwise have gone their whole lives without experiencing Extreme Noise Terror, it has been suggested to me by numerous and innumerable ...

He seems to be on the case.
I hope that may ease the concerns that some of you may be having about the change over.

There may be a number of good reasons to eat more local, seasonal food such as:
* to reduce the energy (and associated CO2 emissions) needed to grow and transport the food we eat
* to avoid paying a premium for food that is scarcer or has travelled a long way
* to support the local economy
* to reconnect with nature's cycles and the passing of time
* to eat seasonal food that is ...

Your point is irrelevant to the case, and also suggests that every religion in the world is wrong (they may well be, but I think that kind of talk is against forum guidelines).
Belief comes from wherever it comes.
