once i had clipped or rugged, i wouldnt leave rug off unless it was exceptionally warm for the time of year, and then only for a couple of hours at midday, and definately not overnight when the temperature always drops by several degrees.

That gives me the shivers. All our animals, fom goldfish to kittens, have been buried in the back garden and a little garden built for them. I think any creature deserves some dignity in death. The thought of them lying alone and cold somewhere makes me want to cry. Everyomne has their own beliefs though. Jen x

I think if you think about what could happen everytime your around horses an accident would be more likely to happen- you would be a nervous wreck and the horse would pick up on this and be more likely to be jittery! Or you simply wouldnt be around horses! I think its wise to take sensible precautions- always wear a hat when riding, make sure your horse is well mannered and knows the boundaries, ...

That would shock me too, how sad. I guess for some people it's 'just' an animal and not worth spending 10 minutes in the cold digging a hole. I certainly would not consider it though, my mum's garden is full of random animals' graves where I found some poor dead thing and was determined to give it a proper burial. It would be the same now if I had a garden...

I remember reading somewhere years ago someone saying that foot problems seemed to be confined to shod horses in the UK as farriers here pare the hoof down to fit the shoe, whereas on the continent they make the shoes slightly wider than the hoof and consequently horses over there don't go lame so often... dunno how 'scientific' that is, but with the internet being around these days it wouldn't ...

Think I'm going to try it! Is there a minimum amount of bags you need to buy? I just want him to stop eating his ruddy bed and it's got to be cleaner and easier to muck out than straw!

How come he doesn't like the soft?
Maya goes the same on both hard and soft (no random stones though on the hard, they catch her out)

I wouldn't worry about it lynnemh
People who claim to know about everything even if they have very little knowledge are the annoying ones. I too don't throw my opinions around at the farm.
I find that if I quietly get on with my horse and let everyone else share bad advice and methods to the novices then they will find out for them selves that it was bad advice. If they don't ...

Sounds to me like he's just doing it cos he can. Have you tried using some kind of pressure halter? My old loan horse used to do a similar thing - when I caught him in the field he would just set his neck and gallop off to the gate, then wait for me to get there to open it and lead nicely to his stable! It was amazing how much difference the pressure halter made he never even tried this while ...

OMG
If it happened to me, there would probably be WWIII at the yard.
I got especially irate when one of the liveries, who used to supervise the weekends (whilst owners were competing), insisted on brushing my horse's mane despite my repeated requests to leave it be (he's a full-maned QH who was in a private livery yard full of SJers and eventers). She did manage to rip out alot of mane ...

Well i think anywhere on the mainland would be cheaper than that!!!!
Here in wonderful Gloucestershire, we pay £3.50 for hay about £8 for shavings
The hacking is brilliant.
i would think average price for DIY would be £25-£30 a week.
So start packing

Such very sad news.
On the contrary, I think it would be very appropriate, if it's something she enjoyed. The other girls will have fun and remember her, you can celebrate someone's life without being solemn and sad.

Can't answer your question - but I just want to say I'd like to know more about this too. I have Centred Riding lessons and love them. But I also want to know more about other approaches too - so I hope people reply! Kathy1? Rabo? Anyone?!
