Medicine Ball Torso Rotation This exercise might be beneficial for kids with Scoliosis. It works the paraspinal muscles, it's good for coordination and it's easy for young kids to do. I had my 6 year old try this and he could do it safely, without difficulty. We used a 2 pound medicine ball that looks like a basketball. We modified this exercise slightly by placing a small disc behind his back. We used the disc to hold the ball....

Welcome to the forum and I'm so sorry that your pain brings you here. No, you are not crazy for wanting to feel comfortable with your surgeon. Some people get second, third and fourth opinions and more until they feel sure that this person will give them the best result. This is your spine, and your future, so take your time and find the surgeon in whom you'll feel confident. You don't mention that this current dr. has run any...

I havent followed all the threads about spinecor...but i do know this... when has a manufacturer said bad things about their product, unless ordered to tell the truth by a court of law? what is a statement by a manufacturer worth... they certainly dont want to put themselves out of business! it is completely expected that a corporation will defend their product.... to the end!! jess

Congratulations! That is great that he is doing so well. How old is Alexander? I am coming up on 13 years after surgery but so far the best anniversary was last year since it marked living with rods and what not for half my life.

P lease read the rest of the tread - regarding the Spinecor manufacturer's rebuttal to the controversy. If you read the six page rebuttal - Spinecor states that the 3 team members, while they had "certificates", these certificates were introductory level training certificates only - not certificates of full training which would deem them fully certified .

I think I read somewhere on the forum that these types of exercises are more helpful for someone with thoracic scoliosis vs. lumbar scoliosis, right? In other words, the exercises target the muscles higher up in the back and not as much in the lower portion of the back?

Hi,
We're still pre-surgery so I can't give you too much good advice, but I have a son near your age with a curve in the 50s (although his is in his upper back). Right now, it's stable, but we may be looking at surgery if it progresses.

If you're familiar with the " vicious cycle" theory, this means that both of these techniques do help correct the "asymmetrical loading", but until the root cause is addressed or the asymmetrical loading totally reversed, the curvature will probably restart the cycle
have you got any references to (decent) literature on this?

That's amazing. Like Candid Camera amazing... people could be filmed just for their reaction to reading that.
So Clear is entirely a non-profit? No business side? How can we check?
I hope all the patients who are "contributing" to this "charity" deduct the treatment costs as charitable contributions.

I think you will agree that this ramp up to surgery is the hardest part.
Your daughter will come through this faster than you might imagine.
Stay focused. Eyes on the prize.
Good luck.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear that Sally. I hope the test points directly to the problem spot and that Dr. Rand can fix it without delay. It's a bummer, but it sounds like it can be fixed without too much drama and you can continue your life painfree.
One good thing, at least your fusion is intact. Sending very best wishes.

Hi...
My one BIG recommendation would be to wait until Dr. Paul has done at least 8-10 of these procedures. There has been quite a bit written about learning curves, especially in terms of thorascopic procedures. For example:

That's really wonderful!
I am glad you posted that because I can't think of another testimonial about Spinecor producing that much reduction in AIS. So that's great from that standpoint also.
Accumulating data one testimonial at a time! We should all be able to publish in about 250 years!

Being young, I expect you'll get a good correction Bethany. I am sure you'll be happy with the result.
Glad you don't have long to wait, because waiting's the hardest part. Take care, eat well and exercise daily, if you can. Good luck!

Congrats!!

Hi...
I ended up being intubated for 5 days post op. All I know is that i wasn't breathing well enough on my own. I've heard of others who have had to be intubated, but I would say it's relatively rare. It was scary for me, as I wasn't prepared for it to happen.
Regards,
Linda

Rich, I found the fear of losing mobility was far worse than the reality. No, you can't bend at the waist, but you can bend at the hips and knees. No, you can't twist round in the driver's seat, but you can sit on a satin pillow case, which allows you to move slightly to see over your shoulder. Most things are doable, even if slightly differently. Don't let the fear of losing your mobility ...
