NHIE Deterence From Licensing -...
Published (2009-11-26 18:30:00)
I hate to use the word, and I mean no disrespect, but if you are the type of personality that " chokes " under pressure, you can't be a home inspector, no matter how much you know. The first time you have a young, female client who brings along her contractor father to the inspection, you'll disintegrate. Being a home inspector is like public speaking where the audience's future may depend on your every word......

NHIE Deterence From Licensing -...
Published (2009-11-27 00:47:00)
Nick's advice is as sound as it comes. The NHIE is used in your state to determine what an entry level, first-day-on-the-job, still using his first set of flashlight batteries home inspector is supposed to know before his first inspection. In other words...it does not necessarily measure competency or ability, but is assumed to be able to measure strictly potential. You will not get sympathy from anyone for having been "screened...

AFCI in Damp Locations
Published (2009-11-25 09:19:00)
Paul, what are they going to do about the excessive heat generated by AFCI's if all branch circuits require protection? Required ventilation of the panels? New AFCI design? As it is, having 6 or 7 AFCI's in a panel heats the wall in the adjacent room where it can be felt with your hand. Has anyone determined the watt consumption of these devices? I may just do that, if that info is not available.

Home Inspector Pro will be one of the sponsors of the event. We'll be giving out a few copies of Home Inspector Pro as door prizes and I'll be giving a talk on website optimization with IR sites in mind. Dennis Gordeau, Bill Warner and Charley Bottger can all tell you how well IR only sites work.

"Your check is in the mail."
"I will respect you in the morning."
"Licensing is inevitable and you need to work with us so that we can pass a law that is good for everyone."
Now...go wash that yucky taste from your mouth and promise never, ever to cooperate with a licensing venture again. Fight them all....until someone demonstrates a genuine need.

Have you heard recent radio advertising from AHIT? It's been airing in the St.Louis area where there are lic. and non-lic. States.
It basically says that the market in purchasing for-closures has increased the demand for HI's and the average fee is around $300. Then goes on to say in this tough economy it's a great way to supplement your income as a part-time inspector doing 2 or 3 ...
