Trumping Dell Support
Published (2009-11-24 19:08:00)
About a year ago, my housemate decided it would be a good idea to drop my Dell Mini 9 down some stairs. Not so good as you can imagine. I soon arranged with Dell to have the broken bits fixed and I had my Mini 9 back with brand new LCD and Motherboard. However all was not perfect, I was having the most minor-ist of problems with the keyboard, specifically the [ ] # and \ (which you can see on the latter of the two pictures in this post ....

Dell Mini 9 with capacitive touch

how much did the capacitive touch screen cost? where did you buy it? will windows 7 support multi-touch gestures? I'm presuming that the fabled mac tablet will support this some day, so maybe os X will, too? thanks for posting. keep the updates coming.

This does seem to be causing more than a few problems at the moment unfortunately! A new member with (say) a mobile broadband problem, on a new Mini 10v running Windows 7, sees a choice of five possible 'areas' in which he could post his query, namely Beginners Question, General Discussion, 3D Mobile Broadband Discussion, Dell Mini 10v Discussion, or Windows 7 Discussion... which one does he choose? ... and then if he is interested...

Runcore Pro 32gb SSD block sizes
Published (2009-11-21 04:24:00)
I came across this handy SSD partition alignment calculator ( techPowerUp! :: SSD Alignment Calculator ) and was hoping to use it to figure out the offsets for my two OS partitions. Does anyone know the NAND page size and NAND erase block size for the Runcore 32gb Pro (not Pro IV). I'm guessing the page size is 4k and the erase black size is 512k, but I'd like to confirm that before proceeding.

I think the problem is due to your earlier installation of the XP drivers. Can you do a system restore to before you installed the XP drivers and then install the latest Broadcom Windows 7 drivers - it should work (apart from hibernation). Bluetooth Problem in Win 7 - Simon.

Yes, Aero works. I've read that two-finger scrolling works, at least with the Synaptics driver, but I have never tried it.

I don't know the answer to that question. But I am looking at the Intel 5100 wireless card, because:
* I want good Linux support (you don't need to worry about this)
* I bought a N router, whose speed is currently wasted on my G wireless card
* But I don't think I'll benefit from the faster 5300 with my current N router (the 5300 is also more expensive and wants a third antenna)
* Intel ...

Any extensive typing, I would recommend the 10v. I have both a 10v and A90. Even with the int'l kb, the A90 is still pretty cramped for extensive typing.
I do like the A90 for it's small size and I think the speakers sound better than the 10v.

I see this a lot on Windows installs. I don't know why there is a small unpartitioned space at the end, but it seems harmless. It may have to do with the geometry of the disk tracks.

why not just go for the 56WHr battery, mine lasts like 6+ hours, I realize that it does stick out of the bottom, but if you think about it, it does raise the Mini quite nicely which I think helps to cool it better and it puts the keyboard at a nice comfortable angle also..just my 0.02..
PS: about the difference in what you asked...there maybe a difference but I am sure not by too much, ...

Yours is a familiar tale here - the SSD has failed. Even though it shows up, it refuses to be read from or written to. If it is still under warranty, contact Dell for a replacement.

Well, there is no such thing and it looks like there won't be any soon.
However, I was playing around with this GMA500 recently and found some interesting thing.
Looks like Intel recently has released "Intel Embedded Graphics Drivers (IEGD)" pack, dated on 10/23/2009. This is pack intended for developers, but it also contains the latest driver for GMA500 (10.2.0. 1447). Sadly, it is XPDM ...

All I can think of, besides locating another Mini 9 in your area, is to get a hold of one of the MDD USB enclosures: RunCore 70mm/50mm PATA IDE Mini PCI-e External USB Enclosure Runcore Mini PCIe External PATA Enclosure Detail Page
or RunCore 70mm/50mm SATA/PATA Combo Mini PCI-e External USB Enclosure Runcore Mini PCIe External Combo SATA amd PATA Enclosure Detail Page

So if my Internet connection is down I can't use my computer ? This idea has been tried before, in the 80's they were called dumb terminals, in the 90's thin clients and today we call it cloud computing. The problem is still the same, if my network connection fails, my machine turns into a paper weight.

Hey. I was wondering if I should get the 1.66GHZ or 1.6GHZ? Intel® Atom Processor® N280 (1.66GHz/667MHz FSB/512K cache) for 25$ or Intel® Atom Processor® N270 (1.6GHz/533Mhz FSB/512K cache) [Included in Price]

If I knew someone were willing to do it for $20 (or GBP) I would let them. I'm fairly handy with a precision screwdriver and a beer, but I have watched the videos and after my friend telling me he has done 4 (without) issue and found it hard, I worry about myself. That said, it is something that requires you to basically tear the entire computer apart, it is not a user upgradeable item according...
