OK, maybe not much more to be said about the food and the service. I'd like to talk about the music. Who programs it? It seems very much aimed at Persons Of A Certain ( i.e. , my) Age. And esoteric ones at that. I mean, tonight, OK, "Love Man" by Otis Redding: that's pretty easy. But who stuck in "2120 South Michigan Avenue"? And the Brian Auger/Julie Driscoll version of "This...

Pretty new, of course. ETA: I just remembered it serves only three dishes. A challenge to get a full column out of that.

QUOTE(peppyre @ Nov 3 2009, 08:54 PM) QUOTE(splinky @ Nov 3 2009, 02:29 PM) made a cherrybrook kitchen gluten free chocolate cake today. i didn't actually follow the directions, but it was better than bad. i used butter instead of a neutral oil. next time i may use milk instead of water. who knows an egg may find it's way in there. the alternative flours seem to have the right fineness of grind but...

When the weather is right, the views from the Getty are unbeatable. Depending on the season, there are vendors selling mangoes, etc. on street corners.

QUOTE(Sneakeater @ Nov 4 2009, 02:42 AM) Hey, people can organize all the brunches they want for noon on Sunday. As long as they don't expect me to be there. Still indebted to you for the Franny's compromise. What strollers?

Dining in London
Published (2009-11-02 23:00:00)
Bloomberg news has a report by Richard Vines of the return to dining by investment bankers. Their big spending ways are making a big difference in many restaurants. "No recession here in Belgravia" and "if a few tables order the Petrus" signal that the dark days of tightened belts may be in the past for the fortunate few QUOTE Marcus Wareing (Marcus Wareing): Hows business? Vong got plenty of good reviews when it opened, including (but not limited to) three stars from Bryan Miller in the Times , who was a tougher grader than recent critics have been.

QUOTE(ulterior epicure @ May 19 2009, 09:57 PM) Did anyone foresee three Bruni stars in Minetta Tavern's fate? I am more stunned than I have been about any Bruni rating. Only 6.8% of Eater's 497 voters predicted this outcome.

Tell me you're joking. QUOTE âI look at the selection of a new critic as a chance to revisit our conventions and think about what makes sense in the world we live in now. Thatâs about as much as I want to say on that right nowâ Bill Keller in this week's Observer . Nevertheless, it's true. I was betting all along that it would be a safe, inhouse appointment, but there's ...

I don't have much positive to say about the Yankees this morning. Sabathia's four hits, two runs was actually not a problem. What happened to that bullpen? And given that Girardi has a line-up which actually could tie up a four run game in one inning, why use the dreaded Bruney to let them extend the lead? Lee, of course, was good. But Jeter went three for four. Where was everybody ...

QUOTE(Stone @ Oct 31 2009, 07:15 PM) I decided to spend the winter learning how to make desserts. I've been pretty good at most the desserts I've tried (a few bad cheesecakes notwithstanding). For some odd reason, the editors of GQ feel qualified to name "America's 25 Douchiest Colleges" in the current number. #24 is Texas. #16 is USC. #1 is Brown. Florida does not make the list. Curiously, they also feature a piece on Tim Tebow and his religious beliefs. Hmmmm?
