Well, I just don't buy junk, and luckily we don't receive junk. Growing up, my Mom put all kinds of things in stockings - if it fit in a stocking - it was a 'stocking' gift. So it's not about how much something cost for me, but more how large an item is. You can spend a lot of money on stockings! LOL! At least that has been my experience. I agree that when you have a family, you need to make your own family traditions.
But do try to make time with the extended family.

I LOVE cranberry juice, home-made cranberry relishes and all that. I hate dried cranberries. If I want some red dried fruit in my salad, that's what dried cherries are for. They taste great! Dried cranberries - blech.
