DS game recs?
Published (2009-11-20 20:16:00)
DS (6.5) LOVES the Super Mario 64, an older "classic" game. However, he also loves the New Super Mario Bros, and even DS and I will play that with them. Heck, even 4-yr old DD will jump in on the Super Mario Bros. game A mom tonight was telling me that her 7-yr old has been loving the Lego games (Star Wars and Indiana Jones, specifically), as well as the New Super Mario Bros. Mario Karte was cute, but since he have it on the...

A group of our friends takes turns making dinner on Thursday nights, so I do it about once a month. It is very casual and informal, nothing fancy, but I am running out of ideas! Baked pasta and salad, soup and sandwiches, paninis and salad are the types of meals we usually do. Anyone have some easy and economical recipes they love?

Stretch denim leggings?

Mine are soft knit, but I think mine are the other color. I would check with Nordstroms because it's always better if you try them on, especially with junior sizing. _________________ Deborah Mama to 3 Deborah Justine Photography

Lump in my throat
Published (2009-11-20 22:35:00)
7 y.o. DS came home from school today all excited because he had a "special lunch" with his classmate Brian and the school psychologist. DS explained that Brian is good friends with the school psychologist (whom DS described as "the lady you talk to when you have problems you need to work out"). I immediately got a lump in my throat because the reason Brian is "good friends" with the school...

Oh how terrible!!! That poor child - I just cannot even imagine. I don't know what the right thing to do is, I only know what I would do & that would be to tell my DS. Mine is also 7 and I would just explain in very simple terms that Brian had a mom and unfortunately she died (my DS knows that people die and they talk about animals dying at school a lot as they're covering the animal - esp. bugs - life cycle extensively this...

Puppy advice?

my almost 13 year old lab just passed. from about age 3 or 4 he could be alone in the house probably about 5 or 6 hours before he had to go to the bathroom. most of the time though we had a doggie door if we were going to be gone all day or something. at that time both my DH and I worked so he was alone all day. he was a lab though, so it really depends on the personality of the dog.

I'd like to say that you should tell your son, but because you don't know the situation closely, I'd talk to the psychiatrist at school. Learn how your son and Brian interact and if/how its come up in school (he may already know). Since Brian's dad is open about it, and since it happened to Brian and its nothing for him to be ashamed of, it certainly isn't being kept a secret. It may be easier to just tell your...

I have a bunch of games already, but want a few recs to make sure I'm not forgetting anything DS "needs". Its mostly for the 6 year old, but the 4 year old is certainly allowed to use it (though he's still loving his Leapster).
So... what do you recommend? And if you were only going to get one Mario game, which?

Now that I have my cute flat boots, I need some skinny denim leggings to tuck into them! Prob is I'm preggo and can't find anything. I thought perhaps if I find something with an elasticized waistband that are super comfy I can just wear them under the belly and put a bella band on top? Juicy Couture has some cute ones, but they're about $100 for leggings. Seems kinda pricey. Looking online has ...

Hey Dorothy! We've been buying the Magic Treehouse as we go through them for DS1 and when DD is interested, I'm sure she'll read them. DS1 doesn't enjoy the Nate the Great as well so I don't plan to buy any more. I think it just depends on if your sons really like that series as far as buying. We'll be in trouble when DS finishes the Magic Treehouses b/c nothing else has quite stacked up. ...

DD is very much into braids! Of course, with her fine hair and flyaways, her hair is impossible to french braid, so I end up doing a whole ponytail, 2 ponytails, or even 1 or 2 smaller ponytails of the front of her hair...then I braid those. Her newest thing is me side-parting her hair, pulling the larger side up in a ponytail, then dividing that hair into 3 small sections and braiding the 3 ...

Okay girls I need advice.... I am 177 lbs of unhappy mommy! Before my 2 babies (aged 4.5 and 1) I weighed 119.... I can't seem to find the time to go out for and hour a day to work out alone so I bought the Wii Fit... just a waste!! I have tried working out with yoga tapes... but honestly I am just not very good at excerise. Before my babies I took Phentermine to lose weight, but now one ...

I am looking for some opinions / advice.
My DH and his siblings are planning a summer beach trip for my MIL's 60th birthday. We are looking at a beach house in the outer banks. I've never been, so while in my eyes, a vacation where I need to cook and clean up doesn't sound like so much of a vacation, I'm still keeping a positive outlook and looking forward to it. We have been going back ...

Where is the best place to get a Rody? As I recall, this was the rave several years ago. I would like to get one for my 2 year old. Will this be okay for tile indoors and pavers on the back porch? Thanks!
Also, what kind of little shelves do you have for your kids rooms? I would like the "Collector's shelves" from Pottery Barn Kids, but I would not like to pay that price. Have you seen ...
