All sorts of examples of services only being offered to a specific group of people spring to mind. Eg, holiday companies which restrict holidays to people within a certain age range are perfectly legal, in spite of age discrimination laws. It seems to me, that as long as Microsoft make it clear "up front" that if you modify your XBox, you will be excluded from the "Live" service, then anyone who chooses to...

Books come from many sources, GA. For older public domain books Project Gutenberg is good for text and html files. The Internet Archive has a lot of PDFs, which need a great deal of work sometimes. But these work under US copyright, so won't be hosting Chandler. I occasionally work from scans that I've done myself but find that it's a lot of work. Now, for works entering the Canadian public domain, such as Chandler's, on 1...

MARY ELIZABETH BRADDON was born in Frith Street, London, the daughter of a solicitor. In about 1840 her parents separated and she and her mother Fanny moved to St. Leonards-On-Sea for a short time, after which she spent the rest of her childhood in London. In the 1850s she took to the stage under the name of Mary Seyton, her mother accompanying her throughout as 'Mrs. Seyton.' She performed in numerous provincial towns and cities,...

Today is a day for doing nothing special!
Gonna go pick up goggies from day-care in about 3 hours. Go home, pour myself a glass of red wine, feed goggies, take an hours evening walk with said goggies. Go back home, pour another glass of wine. Make a pepperoni and smoked ham pizza (Sarah Lee Pizza kit is the shit!). Eat pizza, watch " Midsomer Murders", have another glass of wine, fall asleep ...

So far it's like reading 'old, good' Stephen King. I'm halfway through and it does not feel at all like a slog, as so much of his work has in recent years. Now we'll just have to see if he's managed to write a decent ending (a weak point of his writing I've always found).

Sword of Shannara was so clumsily written it was tough the read. I haven't read anything by him in the last few decades so he may have improved. Commodified Fantasy.
The Brothers Hildebrandt.
I tried to read Urshurak but was unable to finish. They should have stuck to illustration.
Mercedes Lackey.
I've only read one book by her, Magic's Pawn . (I think that's ...

I can't make a direct comparison as I do not yet have an e-reader, but a big problem I have found with using my touch-screen mini-laptop (Fujitsu 1510d which is, granted, a bit elderly at 2 years) as a reader is the time it takes to either boot up from a cold start or even come out of standby. Sometimes a meeting would be just about over before I could lay eyes on the document I needed or have ...

And here I thought you had started to post spam selling threads!
So, they're only disconnected from the Life services, but can still play games on their x-box. Then how does this affect them?
Tbh, I'm not against this move as long as it's completely sure it has been modified so you can play illegally gotten games. I wouldn't compare it to the removal of DRM on ebooks so you can read it ...
