Dude, dont pump him up too much. He's not an "average
fielder", he is the worst LF defensively in all of baseball. Kind of like that rookie year when he was one of the worst Third Basemen defensively in the history of the game. He's definitely fast enough to make up for errors on his reads, but he just takes awful routes on balls. The one thing he does nicely out there is that little slide...
