I think what we've seen in the last month is the unwinding of a hugely profitable trading strategy followed by hedgees and institutional traders in the first six months of the year. It involved going long oil--buying the commodity and oil stocks--and going short financials. At it's height in June this strategy had returned 125% for the year, according to the Financial Times. That worked so well ...

Hi All - I've gotten to where I love spending as little as possible on food.  However, I'm afraid that I haven't been doing very well for meals because of it and our health will eventually be affected.  I love ramen for lunch a couple times a week, (I only use half the seasoning, add chili sauce, lime juice and shaved roast beef - so it's still pretty cheap and a bit healthier than usual.)  ...

After church today, my sister and I stopped at Panera Bread for lunch. The receipt had one of those "answer a short survey and you may win a prize" come-ons, with both a toll-free number and a Web site if I wanted to leave my opinion. I filled on the survey online; it took about five minutes. I do this fairly often, but not always, when there's a survey offer on the receipt. However, I always ...

I'm really getting sick and tired of interviewing asians for our low paying service jobsI know that roughly twice the median wage in our area is too cheap to show up for work. But you would thing that maybe a couple of folks would brighten up and learn something rather than whine about the loss of the local sneaker factory.... or the loss of the car plant that made cars that nobody wanted. ...

My deep concern with the Republican Party's agenda is their attempt to provoke fear in the American Public in order to sway votes their way.  A way that might provide them the fuel is as follows:   Back in June, Israel performed a mock air exercise over the Med which analysts identified as a dry run to bomb Iran's nuclear infrastructure.  Israel has denied any planned attack on Iran, ...

Trying to make her into some star. What a joke. She is a nobody. A dreamed up star. If she is such a star then why didn't they run her in the primary? She is a drummed up and propped up last minute desperate choice who was popular in Alaska which nobody cares about except the people of oil rich Alaska. She is also another oil person like Bush which we don't need. Nothing but grasping at straws ...

I've been thinking about this recently.  One of the big phrases that gets thrown around in our discussions about money is "delaying gratification."  Obviously, what gets a lot of people into trouble is that they want a lot of stuff and they want it all now, so they either don't save anything for the future or go into debt to buy it all (or both). I'll admit that delaying gratification isn't ...

Palin wants to drill and pollute all over the earth until it splits in half or we get chain reaction earthquakes. She is also a global warming denial person and she is supposed to be someone who loves the environment? Seems to me all she likes to do is drill and hunt and take from the earth instead of trying to find alternative ways to conserve it. She also wants to take polar bears off the ...
