In order for most 2.5" HDD to fit they need to be 9mm thick to fit. They can be slightly taller on the 17" MBPs but not by much.

The Audio Output jack in back is both an Analog out and S/PDIF Digital out. I would just get a TOS LINK cable and hook that in to your receiver if your receiver has a TOS Link connector.
There are no PCI slots on the iMac as it's a thin all in one solution, so any sound card you would get would hook up either Via Firewire or USB 2.

In Mail its should be easy. Once mail is open there should be a left column where all your folders are. Inbox, sent, trash etc. You will have a top header bar and underneath that should be a window where all your inbox mail should be, As long as you have clicked inbox in the left column.

Is the new hard drive the same dimensions as the old hard drive (length x width x height)?
What MacBook model or CPU speed do you have?
If it's a newer MacBook...they're absolutely straight-forward simple to install & replace...which leaves me to believe the new hard drive may be too big dimensionally.

Not much difference, except for hard drive size. I say go for the white MacBook. I would highly recommend an external hard drive for Time Machine back ups. It can be a lifesaver if something ever happened, and I have had to recover old files more times than I could count on my hands. You will be very well suited with the white MacBook, and yes, it's cheaper

Make sure the rubber rails that are fitted to the sides of the HDD cavity are in place and are not misaligned. Sounds like they might be and at least one of them is preventing the drive from going all the way in. By the way, do not try to force anything or you may have an expensive repair to deal with.
Regards.

Stop trying to make a Mac into Windows and your problems are solved. It's a different OS and therefore you should get over your Windows mind set and just go with the flow.
If you can't you can always go back to Windows.
