I am attempting to install six required MS Office updates (KB 954464, KB955439, KB948988, KB955434, KB921598, and KB951548), but I keep getting error message 0x80070643. I am certain that the ose.exe service is turned on. I also know that I can install certain updates, just not these six particular ones (which appear to all be Ofice-related), because I just installed a number of ...

The corporate auditing requires that all accounts' passwords expire, including service accounts. Questions: 1. Is it really a security recommendation? 2. Is there an easy way to automate this process (as a scheduled task, for example)? 2. If a modify the password in the service settings, will this one keep running with no disruption? 3. If I modify passwords for clustering service ...

Have been using MSNBC news as my homepage for quite a few years. Thats MS as in MicroSoft. W98 didn't seem to care too much for their new and improved website a while back and any vid from that site would/will freeze this computer and are avoided like the plague. No problem with vids on other news sites. But there has been an odd intermittent problem of late. MSNBC.com site will open ...

Hello all, I'd like some help on a Win98 Install. I had win2K on an old PC and formatted the HD then wiped it clean with Windows Washer via my Laptop. I am now trying to install Win98 on the PC but I keep getting a "NTDRL is missing error" when the CD-Rom tried to boot with the win98 CD. Can someone help?

I have been having problems with Service Pack 3, along with the rest of the world (see Service Pack 3 Installation Problems in the newsgroup). The one "helpful" response I got was to send a service report to Microsoft. After attempting SEVERAL times to do this, only to have the program stall on "collecting and analyzing data," I found that the only way to make it go through was to ...

Hi, We have an FTP server that we wan't to get rid off but we are not sure if anyone is still using it. How can you tell if anyone is still downloading something from it. Is there something in the Event log we could check? Do we need to turn auditing on for this? Thanks and regards, Seanmig

I have been running Win98SE since 1998. I have a WinME Cd. I tried it in a spare harddrive. I saw no problems with it, but I only played around with the OS. Never ran any real applications. I have considered upgrading to WinME many times. I strongly dislike Win2000, and XP. Not to mention that my computer is likely too slow to run XP. I am fully satisfied with Win98, so I see no ...

I was wondering if I could buy microsoft word 2003 or something for my windows vista laptop as I cant afford to fork out the £80 for microsoft 2007. Also I've heard that this version of word is rubbish. Would 2003 work ok on vista?

Can I change my dual boot Win90Se-Win2000Pro to a dual boot Win98SE-WinXP? The reason I'm asking is that some of my games and newer vid cards require XP as the minimum, as do other programs. If so, what are the steps? Perhaps I would be better off wiping my HDD (after creating an image by Ghost) and then proceeding????? If I do a format, which OS should be installed first? Hell, I am just...

If files are copied (drag'n'dropped) to a CD-R while using Vista, are those files accessible if the CD is put into an XP machine? I've heard of some first-hand accounts where this seems to be the case. Does Vista use a file system on burned CD's or DVD's that XP can't read? If so, does Micro$oft provide a driver for XP to be able to read them?
