Exchange 2010

Since we don't know your situation or requirements, we can't really provide direct insight. That said, I do need to point out I have no expirience with 2010 at all. 1) Visit the Exchange 2010 site. Microsoft is bound to have minimum and recommended requirements posted. 2) Microsoft is sure to have documentation handy for this. It also greatly depends on what you are currently using, and what wouldn't be needed or an issue. 3)...

You are creating additional whitespace when deleting messages, and as phenonenol mentions won't even do that until the retention period passes. EDB and STM files never decrease in size automatically. Look at the Application Log and the 1221 Events will indicate how much whitespace there is. Additionally, since each Mailbox Store uses Single Instance Storage, there is a chance that deleting all those messages won't create as much...

The Solarwinds Exchange Monitor Mailbox Send Queue Size Sets the warning thresholds for the mailbox store's send queue. Microsoft recommends the send queue size never exceed 500 messages. Mine is over 1000. I understand what it is reporting I just dont know how to reduce this number if the Queue in the Exchange System Manager dosent show any messages to be routed. I do know however that this is impacting the performance of my server. I...

Journaling Question
Published (2009-11-23 18:01:00)
I need to journal every email coming in and out of my organization. Is it possible to use a distribution list as a means to journal and archive my emails to a 3rd party solution? If so, is there anything I can do to be redundant? Maybe add in another DL? Also if I were to use a DL to journal my mail into a 3rd party solution, do I still need to keep that DL on a separate database?

You can't take your 2007 store and put it into a 2010 systems. Go down the simplest route and use Quest or Kroll tools to extract mail from the flat EDB and gradually import it into your running 2010 store.

No. Logons to AD, logoffs from AD. Accessing a mailbox that isn't your own (calendar invites etc) are all a yes, but none of what you want.

Probably easiest to set a receive connector that will talk to your application server and accept messages. Better would be to authenticate to the Exchange server as well. It's probably too much of a configuration effort to set transport rules to accept messages from <server> to relay to <specified domains>. If you can keep it simple on the Exchange server you'll be better off....

Hi John, This is as expected the folders will stay on both servers only the content will be replicated to the new servers. So what you must check is that bove servers have the same number of items in their public folder. You can check this by using the Exchange System Manager for Exchange 2003 and for the Exchange 2007 environment you can use the Public Folder tool in the toolbox...

I guess it's impossible to set up Exchange Server 2007 to do SMTP relay.

Check your DNS details for your server. In particular your DNS and EHLO statement. The reverse DNS (rDNS \ PTR) record is configured by the people who issued your IP address in most instances (so your ISP). Below are two articles which explain the general requirements for reverse dns (rDNS\PTR) records for your IP address. I try to adhere to the following when setting up a rDNS ...

The users SID's you're seeing are former users that have been removed from the system. Since the SID is independant of the user, the SID remains, but it can't be 'resolved' back to a username anymore. Public Folders and rights issues make me think PFDavAdmin might possibly assist you: http://www.msexchange.org/articles/PFDavAdmin-tool -Part1.html and http://www.msexchange.org/articles/...

Outlook treats them as a person. Ask yourself why you need to split up this persons' email after you've put it all together? Outlook won't do it for you because the rules in Outlook don't look inside the headers like that. If you have got stuff to different addresses there are going to be keywords, clients or something else to differentiate them - otherwise there would be no point in having ...

Use Message Tracking... It will tell you what e-mails the user sent and received, and at what times. It will provide you with details on the subject, but not with the contents of the e-mail. http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003- Message-Tracking-Logging.html
