I had 2 jacks(about 3and 5 lb)One was first chuck on a gaudy coloured crank bait-don`t ask me for names of lures,I am not geeky like that, and I make a lot of my own.My deadbait rod did nothing.Given the colour of the river ,the deads should have won.The second was on a plastic-Fox thingy perch job. That`s why I love lure fishing. The Hit!.
No feeling like that `Take`. Incidentally I carry all my kit...

Welcome Richard. Some anglers have reported hassle n the Trent with bank
bailiffs moving them along, have you had any bother?

Any of the
low profile reels from ABU, Shimano, Quantum or Pfluger in the £100+ range are all very competant. Cheaper reels are less reliable.

Hello Boarder. Some quality fish you've had there. Rapala are a fine start, i'd recommend Salmo's for price, quality and they're pretty
idiot proof to get to work well. Some good advice I read was not to buy lots of lures but to understand and therefore get the best from a few. Have fun on your quest to find a few that work for you. Ps I'm jealous of your Perch.

On an LAS day on Ardingleigh a few years ago they had snake sweets in the cafe. I was going to give one a go, but I scoffed it before I could try it. Should have got liquorice, like Cyril, as I can't stand the stuff! As an aside, quite a few
soft plastic bass baits are flavoured with liquorice/aniseed.....

We've had over 100 fish (mostly perch and zander) with
drop shot and only 2 pike have been hooked, one bit through, one didn't. You couldn't catch that many fish on jigs without a much higher number of pike so it doesn't seem too effective for pike. I can't see a size 4 hook and 4" plastic hurting a pike much, and if you're hooking too many pike then fish somewhere else or fish for them with ...
