Ive been to a few of them, at least 1 every year. Jeff Kent was at the Long Beach aquarium, before the 08 season. I had to sneak into the second line. They were kicking people out cus it was closing and Kent saw me. He almost didnt sign for me. Garvey was at that caravan as well, I think he goes to all of them. In fact he was the fisrt one out of the bus. It was at the spot across from staples, the outdoor little place, I cant remember what...

Wang to the Dodgers?

I wonder if the Dodgers could talk Pete LaCock (former Cubs 1B) out of retirement to back-up Loney? I could hear Vinnie, "it's a comebacker to the mound and Sandoval is out Wang to LaCock". The SF fans would go wild!

Which one were you at? There were multiple stops that year. If he showed up late or early in his convertible I would have understood. Maybe he had prior arrangments and couldn't get on the bus..., but no he was right behind the bus pulling in. Very Jeff Kentisque

Backup Catcher

"we should go after a solid hitting player that can play a decent first base and step in to Martin's spot" Who though? The only guy that I can think of off of the top of my head who is a good catcher/1B option is Victor Martinez, formerly of Cleveland and now in Boston. It's hard enough finding a decent catcher in MLB today, let alone a guy who can play another position along with catching.

To know the outcome makes the point moot. The whole point of playing the game is to win the big Series. I think it's obvious that it's useless to continue to go to the playoffs KNOWING you are not going to get to the WS. In that case, give me the guaranteed WS win. However, if the question is simply: a guaranateed WS win, or 5 straight playoff appearances where anything can happen... good question. I may have to go with the 5...

The problem is the boom has caused other teams to use their extra profits to raise payroll. 100 mill doesn't go nearly as far as it use to.

Maybe so. Ken Caminiti won the MVP in '96 and years later we learned that he was on 'roids. Maybe Pizzaman too, we'll never know. I know this much: Caminiti wasn't near the hitter he was in '96 before or since, while Pizzaman was very steady thoughout his Dodger career, and for a few years after. Therefore, I lean towards the stand that Pizzaman wasn't on 'roids.

It's a good question, and I'd rather the team in the playoffs every year. HOWEVER, I think its better to play percentages. Would you rather a team that has a 50% chance to win the world series in 2010 and 0% chances in 2011-2014 or would you rather have a team with a 20% if winning the WS in all 5 years?

We have been a small market team since Perter O Malley sold the team! I wish one of this family members took over the team once again like the good ol days.

I agree he impending divorce and general lack of funds is a major concern for signing the players we need this off season. However, his PERSONAL bank account is completely IRRELEVANT and has NOTHING to do with our ability or non ability to pay for needed players.

in a way, the Red Sox are showing us why we shouldn't even pursue Halladay in the 1st place. they already have 2 high-quality, ace status pitchers in Beckett and Lester and are still looking. One ace can't do it by himself, Halladay wouldn't have been the savior ... sure he could have a Cliff Lee type impact, but what did that get Philly? Ned is doing the right thing by focusing on adding ...

"just save the cash for next year." lol, any money being saved is going to pay lawyers fees. Any money after that will be split 50/50 between Frank and Jamie in March. I say just the opposite. I say spend every last f*cking dollar so those money grubbing, POS McCourts don't get a dime of it...or a nickle each.

i dont mind Ausmus being back for one more year ... someone who could add some pop would be nice, but i also don't think our backup catcher should make more than a million this year if he's not Ausmus, considering the supposed need to decrease payroll. its probably the 25th spot on our roster since Russell's workload is always very high. may be a good year to give AJ Ellis the backup job if ...

<<<this is the time you DEAL prospects..at any cost ..for a guy like Roy Halliday..no excuse..NONE!>>> Any cost? My friend, it'll take more than prospects to get a workhorse like Halliday. The Jays will want Kemp, and Kershaw just for starters, and you can bet they'll want at least two highly touted prospects, if not three! Let me guess: you were in on the Arod sweepstakes, with your "...

It's partly about money. He's going to get a solid multi-year contract. Some could argue that he had a career year in 2009 too. I wouldn't have a problem with the Dodgers not bringing Wolf back as long as they bring in a comparable quality pitcher to take his place.

there's a thread on this rumor on the yankees board. the guy's had foot, hip and shoulder injuries the past couple of seasons yet still managed to win a LOT of games pitching in the al east. he's a superstar in the east too. it'd almost be like having nomo again. i say let's do it!

Bills, Martin, Elbert PLUS two top prospects ? Sorry, but what are you smoking ? that is two young all stars plus a major league ready power lefty who can start or relieve and then throw in two top prospects for a 32 year old pitcher (albeit a great one) with a lot of mileage on that arm and signed for only one more year. If you look at recent trades for so called aces your offer is insane. ...

I would still make this trade A.S.A.P.! To me Bills looks nervous alot of the time, especially in big games. Look what happened to him in the playoffs they left him off of it. I say if the Dodgers pull of a miracle and get Halladay we go to the WS. go blue

There could be other variables there, but you're probably dead on. The filing by Jamie about the McCourts' spending habits is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Spending that way, while dropping payroll, is ridiculous...I can't believe MLB isn't asking questions about this. BTW, attendance actually went up this year. I think we had a few thousand more overall and like 400 more ...

5 straight years of reaching any round of the playoffs with no WS victory..but neither one is interesting. I want a competitive team every year and some WS victory.
