We will get them out as soon as we can. Please remember that we are
depending upon a volunteer work force, who have many other demands on
their time, and who, for this specific project, are small in number.
I think they should be applauded for what they have been able to do,
not scolded because they have yet to do what no one else before them
has done.

I would suggest you get some peer-level referrals on your candidate, if
possible. Unless you know what you're looking for, it could be very
difficult to accurately assess someone else. An attorney they've worked
with in the past is not necessarily a good indicator of their
proficiency, although it may be helpful in determining whether they are
easy to work with.
That ...

I would check the plug-ins on the http://www.irfanview.com/  site. You may be able to "Shell()" out one of the Irfanview command lines from VB to do some of that, as well.

Clearwell can import natives directly. Any system that reproduces the
required metadata for the collection should do the job. Just remember
that Clearwell uses the target collection instead of making use copies.

I've had success with forensic tools such as Encase. You also may want to try Recover My Files, but I don't think that recovers the folder structure.
With anything you try, I recommend making a forensic copy of the drive and working off of that forensic copy. Some tools want to write/modify the disk you are using it on and if it doesn't do it correctly, you have another copy with which to ...

Yes, thanks Brad.
My challenge was that I had a bunch of data that was already DeNisted and it was an IP case with over 1000 file types (Autodesk Cad/cam, engineering design, 3D modeling etc)
The data was already processed and loaded but the page count was in the millions so I wanted to do some further culling by using the most common file types and then review the master list of ...

James,
Are you aware of the "de-NISTing" filtering process that is used to filter out system generated files? There are utilities/services available that compare your data set to a National Institute of Standards and Technology database of known system files, enabling you to focus on user generated files, regardless of file extension.
Kind regards,
