Hello people, I've had this tight learning curve when I now decided to try out the new release of Fedora9. I've used all the operation systems from Microsoft since MS-DOS and I thought now was the time to move to something else. It has indeed been interesting, but now the system seems to live quite good side by side with windows xp on my computer. When I've learned how to use the different ...

Has anyone else noticed/fixed a problem with the Kubuntu System Settings tool The following are performed in Administrator mode: 1. When I try to do anything that writes to /etc/X11/xorg.conf the file gets trashed to an unbootable state. I have been working on a dual monitor setup and have given up on GUI tool for this purpose. 2. When I modify DNS server addresses it works fine, ...

I've been curious in light of the unprecedented negative publicity around Microsoft Vista. The rants I've done on it were all for the pre-release versions, certainly well before Service Pack 1, which supposedly fixed a lot of problems. The opportunity has presented itself (by way of a friend of a friend who works for Microsoft) to secure a legitimate copy of Vista Ultimate Edition 32/64 for a...

I want to SSH to my server on the internet, but my proxy I'm behind only accepts secure connections from port 443. How do I trick my proxy that I'm actually sending on port 443 when I want to get to my server on port 22? If this is not possible, how do I set up my server to accept connections from port 443 as well as 22? I'm thinking like a -L or a -R option in SSH? (I'm using PuTTY, but the ...

Hey guys, later note to my last query. I seem to have solved my last problem for now and Ubuntu is fast, great and it has the freedom which i wish i could have on vista. Another problem in which i have is that all of my music and stuff are all on my Windows OS, and I don't know how to access the HDD. Looking around for a DSL decent provider is very discouraging. Different prices in different places. Different terms in different places. Everybody just looking to rip people off. It's Very Depressing!!

Well, I'm new to Linux. I just installed Ubuntu last night, and Linux is working perfectly fine, except for one thing. I can't download anything. The only things that even remotely work when I download them are .tar, .gz, and .zip. With them I can open them up in Archive Manager, but not do anything once I'm that far. I'm trying to install a couple things: Steam, MSN, and Flash. I need Steam so I...

Has anyone else tried to use a Linux distro on this machine? It has the SunPlus Mobile SPG290 processor. The specs for this can be found: HyperScan Game Community: New Software for the 32 Bit Game Console and Sunplus mMobile - Products - Game Platform The hardware in the game is largely off-the-shelf and most can be repaired or replaced easily. What I am wanting to do is ...
