Fujinon W 210 5.6, any comment?...
Published (2009-11-25 21:25:00)
Re: Fujinon W 210 5.6, any comment? I have paid more and gotten less, and still been happy to have what I got. If the price here was a bit higher than the market, that doesn't mean it's too high. (That said, I paid under $200 for a Sinar-branded Rodie 210/5.6 APO-Sironar-N in a newer Copal shutter. I waited a while for a deal like that, though.) Is it ok to use macro lens for...
Published (2009-11-25 18:17:00)
You can use any lens for any purpose you want but lenses are built to perform for the purpose they are designed for. Using a macro lens at infinity will give you an image but not nearly as good a one as the image that a general purpose lens would give. Similarly, the general purpose lens will not perform as well as the macro at macro ratios. But that large image circle that you see for a macro lens is at macro distances - not at infinity. The...

Re: leave Wista 45SP for Chamonix 45N-1? Thanks for the kind regards, Clément, appreciated. To make the list more complete (?) one could also mention the bad tolerances on the front standard lens board attachment (some users recommended use of a file to get it right after the fall of a lens board with a lens). __________________ GPS

Konica IR film
Published (2009-11-25 14:37:00)
A friend gave me about a dozen rolls of 120 Konica IR film that I want to shoot with my 6x9 roll back. I have not used IR film in so long I can't recall anything about it. There is not enough to waste any of it testing and making mistakes. Does anyone have any experience with this film? Thank you!

July 1st is Canada Day, and you know there is going to be a fireworks
show!! While waiting for the show to start on English Bay in Vancouver,
British Columbia I decided to make a long exposure to catch all the boats
moving around the bay. Someone out there decided to fire off an emergency
flare and soon all the boaters were firing them off. Throw in a few jets

Aim the one degree spot at the darkest area in the scene where you still want to see some detail. Close down two stops.
You have just placed the shadow area in Zone III.
That's usually the proper exposure for the scene.
Now, aim the spot at the brightest area in the scene.
If it's a five stop range between the darkest and brightest reading, use normal development.
Less than five, ...

I don't have any comment on the fresnel/WA thing, but there is one significant difference between these cameras: Do you need geared movements like your SP? On the Chamonix, gears and markings are almost wholly absent, so one tends to work by feel and 'look' (what the ground glass tells you). If you need gears, scales, and precision, the Chamonix may not be your cuppa joe.
This being said, ...

Well, any of the electrical or mechanical parts can go. Seeing one start arcing can be quite the sight. Black line packs are very rugged, although I don't know if that's what you have. I've used some that are older than me, and I'm not that young Look for areas of damage, especially around the sync plug and the plugs for the heads. If there is some, get it fixed. Be careful when you turn ...

Well those still in the market are still making money on their products. And that means film is not going away in the near future. The interesting thing to watch is where fine arts photographers will go. I do see film classes being pretty popular and that bodes well for both B&W and color print and film sales. There is still a commercial side to film that is driving the market. A good test ...

I used to love shooting my Jaguar S-type (not LF, though)... now I have a boring Lexus RX400h hybrid.
But I was able to shoot this... I sent one to all my old flames to show them the "Other Woman"

Rick, there are some lessons in that story. Throughout the history of both art and science - and photography - one can say three things are important. The artist; the instrument; the customer. IMHO the rendering of the thesis cannot be successful without the triumvirate. The melding of the three is a complex venture.
A great telescope is useless without a skilled craftsman as an observer ...

Nice work Gene!
I have been messing with green sensitive x-ray film. I have attached an early 8x10 image which was developed in D76 1:3 for about six minutes. As perhaps you can see from the scan, I didn't manage to completely tame the contrast with this developer, so following Chris Nze and Jim Galli's advice, I switched to Rodinal. I am currently developing green sensitive Xray film (50 ...
