Failure to thrive...

Your doctor wants to take the easy way and have you wean so you can quantify how much he is getting. 8 lbs sure does sound smaller than 3% though. Two of my DDs were 3% at four months and were not classified FTT. I would definitely get an IBCLC's help. Rent a sensitive Medela scale to weigh yur baby before and after nursing. Rent a hospital grade pump and pump 8-10 times a day. Look into reglan or domperidone, look into getting a...

¿crisis del octavo mes? !!
Published (2009-11-28 20:13:00)

Hello again. I'm looking to get some larger flanges for my breast pump. But how to I know which size to get? There are 30.5mm/28.5mm and 36mm/32.5mm. Is there a way to know without actually trying? http://www.pumps4mums.co.uk/ameda-customfit-flanges.htm I'm clueless!

Holas!!

My understanding is that " failure to thrive" is not supposed to be simply about weight gain, but general also involves missed developmental milestones. But I am not a medical professional. If I were you, I would definitely get a second opinion from a breastfeeding-knowledgeable doctor (you might be able to get a recommendation by calling the local LLL Leader) before deciding to give up ...

Why do you think your supply is low? Is your LO not having enough wet
diapers?

not sure, but I think I read something about tryptophan being in breastmilk already. How old is your baby? Could be a growth spurt... some babies get sleepy before/after one.

I don't have any specific answers, but I think it's GREAT that you're breastfeeding at all! You are pumping a lot- are you still supplementing with formula or using that milk now? Either way, BF doesn't have to be all or nothing. If your LO is nursing at night she is still getting lots of benefits. It seems like a lot of mamas lose sight of that fact if they have to supplement at all...

Unfortunately, yes. I'm working with a IRL mama who has never made enough. She's taking medications (didn't do Reglan, as she was already a bit depressed) and herbals. Did an SNS, which drove her insane. It appears she actually has insufficient glandular tissue, even though she has normal-sized breasts.
I have also worked with a mama who seemed to make enough but did not have a good letdown...

I have no suggestions, sorry! But I know what you're going through...we've
tried to give a bottle 3 times now due to a couple unusual circumstances.
HE HATED IT!! So we just gave up. Very fortunately I can stay with my son
and nurse him, so it's not a big deal. I hope someone can help you!

It's possible that he's going through a growth spurt. I always found my DD was fussier than normal during those times.
I dont think there's anything wrong at all with feeding on demand. You're responding to his communications and that's the important thing. IMO, he'll learn to self soothe in good time. Right now, you're helping to soothe him which is a powerful thing.
Have you tried a ...

I'm so sorry. Have you looked to see if there is a La Leche League near you? You can call the leaders and see if they can help you.
Will they be open next week?

If you trust her diet and health then there is no reason not to. There is another mom on here who does the same thing for her friend and I've given milk to my cousin for her kids. It's actually recommended by the World Health Organization to use EBM from a donor over formula

I wouldn't bother getting it if you don't plan on using it. Seems like a waste of government funds if you ask me. Why do you feel obligated to get it and use it just because they gave you the vouchers? You wouldn't pick up and use all the formula just because you got the vouchers, would you?

hola mami Yuri Vargas.-
A esa edad tu bebe NECESITA MAS DE TI, ES UN RECIEN NACIDO QUE AUN QUIERE Y SIEMPRE VA A QUERRER TENER A SU MAMITA A SU LADO, dejalo llorar NO ES LA MEJOR MANERA.

Hola Lifava,

Welcome, Mama! I'm sorry you've had such a rough trip into motherhood. Are you recovering okay from the c-section?
It sounds like you didn't have such great help in the hospital. A mama in pain from major surgery needs extra help, and the fact that you got conflicting advice and weren't allowed to see your baby for so long probably contributed to the problems you had getting him to latch. ...

Why are you going to wean him at a year? Are you sure that is what you want to do?
Are you still swaddling? Maybe you could try that. At that age I would nurse Lilah to sleep, swaddled, and then put her in her crib, but wedged on her side. She did not like to sleep on her back. When she was about 5 months old (? maybe 6 months) we stopped swaddling and I would put her on her stomach in ...

Argh, sorry that you're dealing with this! I had my first son hospitalized and under the bililights so I can say it's really toughing on breastfeeding even when the hospital is relatively breastfeeding-supportive. The bili-lights are really just lights of a particular frequency - sunlight also works. So if you can get your baby into the sunlight now, you might be able to get the levels down and ...
