Rise Sushi - opinions?
Published (2009-11-09 20:14:00)
Sometimes people write restaurants off just because they're located amongst middling places and trend-seeking crowds. If doing so leads those people to avoid Rise Sushi, good for them. It was impossible to keep the fried shrimp in a pool of Panda Express type glop from splashing my shirt, and when I saw the $19 price tag, I knew I'd really been taken to the cleaners. I also paid the extra $3 for real crab in what became a $9...

Hi, Sun Wah prefers banquet service, which consider family style. They feel with buffet, it is hard to keep track who received what. Khaopaat - I find if I have even one guest, the bad family behavior goes completely away. Everyone likes to look good in front of strangers. Or at least it works like a charm with my family. Regards,

New Sam's Wine store?
Published (2009-11-09 14:42:00)
I was there on Saturday and it was well-stocked. My wife and I went to see what was on closeout sale. Unfortunately, not that much that excited us. We picked up a few bottles of wine on sale, a few bottles of hard stuff that wasn't on sale, and also picked up a Binny's card.

I bet this place will be wonderful. But as I was perusing the website, I couldn't help but giggle a little. There are no prices, and based on description this place is likely to be very expensive. Slightly less upscale, and yet wonderful versions of this food are available all over the south for a fraction of the price. Like I said, this place is probably going to be very good. It is just ...

I read Ratio this summer and I believe it to be one of the most valuable "cookbooks" I've ever read. At first it may seem like an exercise in precision but I believe it to be the opposite. Yes, you have to remember the basic ratios, but that's it really...as long as your units of measurement are consistent. Whether your measurements are in grams or tea cups, as long as you stick to the ratio, ...

I discovered this forum yesterday and have been reading obsessively ever since. This is great! I'm fairly new to the Chicago area and am always looking for great restaurants that don't necessarily make headlines or appear in tour guides. Living in the far south suburbs makes dining in Chicago an all-day event, though, so I don't get into the city often.
Anyway, I've registered and ...

Coincidentally, I went to Lula's last night as well. It was my first time there after years of wanting to go. We got there around 6:30 and were seated right away inside. If we had shown up fifteen minutes later, there would have been a wait. I had originally planned to go with the Monday night farm dinner described and photographed in Ann's post, but meat was calling my name last night, so I ...

Fresh turkey's harder to find, but there are certainly frozen turkeys that are better than others, less full of junk. To some extent you should be able to tell just by looking at its packaging-- the less it promises to baste itself, cook your mashed potatoes for you, etc., the more it's just a turkey without a lot of junk. Ho-Ka's are a good brand for a pretty natural turkey, and they're ...

I finally made it over here for lunch yesterday before hitting a matinee. My boyfriend and I each ordered a Polish with everything and a dipping dog. Wow, the fries are so good - they're so light and crispy. I definitely prefer these fries to Hot Doug's and fRedhot's. At the other two venues, I always felt like my order of fries was not much more than fried skins with a little potato. Here,...
