How is your network structured? Backup systems shouldn't be terribly difficult on a domain network with centralised storage for all user accounts. It of course depends just how complicated your network is and what you're trying to backup. To be honest it strikes me as a bit odd that you need to ask this question in the first place . Also is the problem a lack of storage or the technical method of doing a backup?

I guess that is a judgement for each person to make but I think an extra 4Mbps is a fairly good rise above your old performance, especially since 12 to 16Mbps seems to be a sort of common peak for real-world ADSL2+. On the other hand, with those stats, I would expect your peak to be nearer to 16Mbps than 13Mbps, but I guess you're not far off. Remember this is TalkTalk , it is a cheap ISP so you can't expect wonders even with the boost.

can anyone compare them to the likes of zen and fast for ping times? im looking at moving to thier business package but i have quite greedy needs. i need about 7mb 24/7 and low ping times but i am prepared to pay for that £35pm. ive emailed them and had no reply which doesnt realy convince me that much, either does the fact to sign up to them thier payments wont accept credit cards issued in 2009 lol.

At the risk of stating the obvious - scrounge another router, use it for about a fortnight or so, and see if you still get the problem.
I occasionally get the "noise on voice line" problem with my router - a Zyxel, not a Netgear. Mine is an old-style fixed 2Mb line, not an "up to 8Mb" line, so there's none of this nonsense with resetting profiles, my speed remains unaffected, and I haven't ...

Hi Fabian,
Have you spoken to us since your call in August, as I can't see any further notes or e-mails from you about the speed problem you are having?
We ensure that customers will never see a speed drop due to our network - this promise was made because some providers were deliberately reducing speeds at busy periods - we don't, and never will do that - we'll also do everything we ...

You're not allowed to use Outlook cos it's not in their T&Cs??
So now your ISP wants to tell you what programs you can use!
F*ck that! It's so pathetic it's actually funny!

It all depends on the ISP DHCP settings. Anything from minutes to years.
If its a static IP then it will remain until the customer doesn't want it, or the ISP has a change around.

Speaking of browsers, Microsoft is finally going to focus on performance and standards for IE9! That's a first, usually they just try to quick-fix for standards and bulk more features onto the browser instead of improving its rendering performance.

Yes but they're a bit of a mish-mash. Obviouslly you have iTunes and other services like Sky Player if you're a Sky TV subscriber, though Sky Player is also becoming available on separate subscriptions now too (i.e. XBox 360).

Personally I'd start a complaints procedure about the £180 charge to start with, although I'd open it with BT and not Fast.co.uk since that side of the engineers visit is not the ISPs responsibility. Even if you've already paid it's worth complainin. BT probably won't do anything but after 8 weeks you can escalate it to an ADR and they'll probably reach a compromise and help you get some of the ...

Hi John,
If you use fdisk to clear the hard drive, you will have to run it a second time to make the partition active. Then install windows again.
You might be able to change the drive letter back to C without having to do all this. Somewhere in control panel there is a section for hard disk maintenance. Unfortunately I am not on my Windows XP machine to check this.
Hope this ...

If it went via Direct Debit, talk to your bank and they should refund you at once; if you paid by monthly Debit Card payment you are screwed, NEVER put any ongoing payment on a Debit or Credit Card, the only way to stop payments is to cancel the card, and they charge you for that; plus it is very difficult to get the money back.

I too have in the past been passed around BT's many "support" departments, it is sadly not uncommon. Sure they pickup the phone fast enough but the support itself is often woeful when you have a problem or desire to cancel. Some other things you could try:
BT's Live chat service (might not load properly on Microsoft IE browser):

well the one thing l can tell you is you will never know exactly, not unless you know the server serving the speed test is not serving other users as well..
basically what l mean to say is that, you share the bandwidth not only with other users (lm assuming) but the same can be said about the end destination, maybe that might not be an issue but l consider it a factor.. also it all depends on ...

Hmmm that's a tough one but the good news is that Avanti and Eutelsat are all preparing even faster and hopefully cheaper satellites for launch over the next 12 months. In the meantime though I might point you towards AVOnline's Eutelsat Tooway service, which is the best value version of this product I could find:
