I agree. Also, Tom was not in bad shape for a middle aged guy. "Two more swords and I'll be Queen of the Monkey People." Roseanne

Michael had already given him the "kiss of death" and, besides, Fredo, dim bulb that he was, knew how Michael would react when he'd later learn just HOW deep Fredo'd been with Hyman Roth and Roth's operations re: the senators in his pocket (who would later subpoena Michael to testify). If he hd gotten on the plane with Michael, do you think that one gesture of faith and trust would have been enough for Michael to spare his life? I always wondered that. I'm not telling!

It was a great role however I was disappointed to see Cazale reprising it almost literally in Dog Day Afternoon. After seeing that I felt that Cazale may have been limited and simply played the same character in every film. Not unlike Sean Connery... but that's another topic.

The discussion about the "plot against the emperor" parallels the plot against Michael. This is Tom's way of saying that Frankie's family will be taken care of. So by Frankie killing himself he's guaranteeing that he will be no more trouble to the Corleone's, he's honorably accepting that he did wrong by Michael and deserved to be "whacked", and that he is sparing Michael the trouble of ...

I would agree with most of what you say, but I would venture that The Godfather is brilliant, and The Godfather Part Two MORE brilliant.
I would also offer Toy Story/Toy Story II.

On another thread, earlier this year, someone said Kay meant that Anthony had been so familiar with the "button men", they were more like peers or playmates! Kay feared that as the Corleone Family business was still a criminal enterprise, it would harm Anthony..

No, but I do think Cazale should have at least been nominated, as he was amazing (especially in the scene you referred to).

Yes. By this point, Michael was severely paranoid. He didn't trust anyone around him. Even Tom, who is arguably the only person left he can trust (and I suppose Al Neri). I don't think he really suspected Tom would turn on him, or he would have have sent him fishing with Al, but he was letting Tom know that he (Michael) was aware of everything that was going on, and he didn't like secrets....

Nobody is perfect, Michael was in love with Kay yet he lusted after and married Appollonia, Sonny cheated on his wife because his penis was too big for her to handle but he was lustfull as well, Fredo was banging cocktail waitresses two at a time when he was supposed to be working.
Why shouldnt Tom Hagen also be lusting after women? he has Jack Woltz's prized race horse killed and orders the ...

The entire scene was poorly done. I know it was there to show with what kind of people the Corleone family is dealing now, but it was a rather long, boring and almost pointless scene, especially since the scene ends as soon as all of them were introduced. That's like watching the beginning of the movie with credits rolling and right after you know who will be in the movie, the movie ends. Oh and ...

It makes sense because the bodies were found underneath Fredo's window. But, imagine Fredo killing somebody.

I'm inclined to think the Rosatto brothers killed Clemenza, backed by that jew in Miami. That's why Pantangeli went to see Michael. After all, Clemenza promised the Rosatto brothers three districts(?) after he died, so why not speed things up a little bit. Then when Pentangeli welched on the deal, it soured things between Michael and Roth, probably prompting someone to shoot bullets into his ...
