Again, I claim no responsibility for your assumptions because my point was you and ent0r are making blanket statements about what the writers said in the past based on limited information available to them. Whereas in the DVD commentary the director clearly references the comicbook. Besides, unlike you I'm not worked up based on whether or not the comic book is canon. My point has been and still remains the comic is part of the same...

ent0r; after several weeks and hundreds of posts, we are again at a point where I detect an inconsistency in your arguments about plot logic concerning Star Trek 2009 and other popular science-fiction such as the original Star Wars trilogy and previous Star Trek canon. I also detect some inconsistencies in your and master exploders as well. Enfantterribles posts are mostly made up crap, but it is consistent in it's nonsense. * To the...

"did anyone else hate the guy playing Kirk? He sounded like a surfer." You mean the actor Chris Pine? Well, he is from California. :)! What does a surfer sound like? I think you may be confusing the Kirk character with the Bo Barrett character who Chris Pine played in "Bottle Shock". Bo Barrett did some surfing and lived in the Napa Valley, north of San Fransisco. When he wasn't surfing, he was tasting...

To ent0r; "I never said that the original Star Wars is completely consistent. I am aware of many plotholes and inconsitencies in the movies. That doesn't stop me from enjoying them." As I figured, enjoying a movie like Star Wars is based on personal feelings. That is all we're talking about, gut reactions to popular science-fiction movies like Star Trek 2009. You didn't like Star Trek 2009 and I liked it. We...

Kirk had an older brother?
Published (2009-11-26 21:19:00)
Correct. The character of Sam Kirk was written into the original screenplay. The character was portrayed by Spenser Daniels and the scenes were filmed. In post-production, Sam's scenes were edited out and his character's name was changed from Sam to Johnny - who is the hitchhiker Jim passes in the corvette. (The deleted scenes on the bonus dvd shows Spenser Daniels' scenes - available for viewing on youtube)

Robert, first of all congratulations on winning your fight. You must be a tough person. Best of luck to you in the future as well. I hear what you are saying in terms of that scenario. If I was facing death, I would certainly dig in for a fight and think positively. But in everything else? I cannot. I do so when appropriate, but cannot kid myself that everything in life has a positive.

Actually, my drunk friend, the sign you speak of (the Vulcan salute) was devised by Leonard Nimoy and is based on a gesture made by certain Jewish denominations. I don't doubt that the sign is an insult somewhere in the world, but it certainly wasn't "stolen" in that regard.

Please learn to type. And please learn to read. This has already been discussed in previous posts, but the simple refutation of yours would be that the Enterprise was actually traveling at warp speed -- thus faster than the speed of light. Neither Einstein nor any other physicists (that I am aware of) postulate what would happen to entities traveling faster than the speed of light.

I noticed that throughout the movie, the Nerada seemed to have unlimited firepower, yet at the end, when Nero shouts out "Fire everything!" they only fired about a dozen missiles.

Nothing was wiped out. My TOS and TNG DVDs still have everything and tht canon still exists in the prime universe where Spock came from. The new movie is a separate canon happening in its own universe. Trek canon shows the existense of parallel universes and mirror universes.

#1: it would not be his Romulus he was saving but the world from the parallel universe; his wife would still be dead. And in any case, the time travel was, as pointed out, a freakish occurrance. There is no way of knowing how or whether Nero could control the process.
#2: Spock was not "making out" with Uhura. That was a scene of comfort and gref. I don't really see how you characterise ...

The only real response to this, although probably pretty weak, is that peaceful core Federation planets such as Earth and Vulcan probably don't have any sort of planetary military. I'm guessing there may be a weapon platform of some sort in orbit (as I believe there was in the 4th season of Enterprise), but that the "primary" defense of these planets probably falls to the fleet of starships they...

The only thing I didn't like is the incredible coincidence that Kirk, ejected by the young Spock, landed within walking distance of the old Spock.
They were on the same planet, true, but they were definitely more than ten miles apart. After Kirk got out of the shuttle, he was chased by that polar bear/gorilla thing and then he was chased by that other big red thing, fell down a mountain ...

So, how is a supernova supposed to destroy the galaxy, again?
The same way a torpedo is supposed to turn a nebula into a fully formed planet with vegetation and animals, and a sun to keep it warm, I suppose.

Sulu isn't a Japanese name either. The name was taken from the Sulu Sea in which is found the Sulu archipeligo, and the character represented that region, just as Uhura represented Africa.
It's Eyre. As in Jane.

Uhura probably fell for Spock for the same reason that women have been falling for Spock since 1966.

Well, very little is known about black holes at present, as it is. We know light can't escape. What about something faster than light? You can't really speculate scientifically, because science doesn't especially believe anything is faster than light (except maybe superluminal tachyons, but whatever :P).
So who knows whether a starship capable of faster than light travel would be able to ...
