As someone who has watched ridiculous Trek stuff before this one, the new movie is far superior to whatever has come before. I agree to disagree with ya.

Really? Marine biologists say they only moan and groan just like other non-human mammals. But what do they know! Nice to learn even whales have a language of their own. Do they also have textbooks, schools, universities, radio shows etc? Keep the fascinating info coming. Oh wonder of wonders! What would we ever do without you. So? What has the existence of a language to do with textbooks, schools, universities, radio shows etc? Well research...

Uhura was already a lieutenant when Kirk was graduating. She was probably at least a year ahead of him in training as a cadet. Honestly, as has been pointed out, there were so many other pretty ladies of various colours and not all of them would have necessarily revealed their first names just like that. In some cultures, including Vulcan, a person has a family name (which everyone knows) and then a person has their own special name, which...

Hey, shellieeyre, DO YOU HAVE NOT EVEN ONE PICOGRAM OF READING COMPREHENSION? I never said anyone had to do things my way. The other poster said Abrams did it for a particular effect. I said that the choice was irrelevant to the effect. Nowadays with digital post-production that's a fact, not an opinion. I wasn't even making a comment about Abrams or this movie. ___ Peckinpah: "I didn't want you to enjoy the...

There's no reason why the people who like the new stuff should have to forfeit that or apologize for what they like Like I have said man that's fine. I believe the same too. But don't shoot down people that dislike the film not because they couldn't accept it, but they geniuinely don't like the film because of the plot or whatever. But I agree with the majority of it.

The word "timeline" is never mentioned in the movie. The words used are "alternate reality". This relates to a speech by Data in the Next Generation episode "Parallels" where he describes alternate universes as "other realities". Here is a quote of Data's dialogue from that episode; "I believe the quantum fissure is a fixed point across the space-time...

Strangely enough, I didn't get that from TOS or from the new movie. I never saw "old Kirk" work for anything, and "new Kirk" was on a starship for a bit longer than "5 minutes," and was hardly "given" anything.

Wow, that is bad.
I mean, Hallmark was making an awesome Christmas ornament replica of the Enterprise, complete with flashing lights and everything, nearly 20 years ago. The same thing can't be scaled up and run off of mains power?
Not that I'd want a real-looking Enterprise hanging off my ceiling either, but still.

He says it at the end of the movie "an act of faith." He knows what Kirk and Spock can achieve when they work together and has an unquivering faith that they will stop nero.

Prequel and sequel, yes. But I think you mean "reboot" rather than "remake." This film isn't a remake.

The name Nero is suspiciously similar to the word negro, which leads me to speculate that he is a metaphor of the plight of minorities in the Industrial Age.

You and your chum (do you ever wander far from his side?) are applying logic and rationality to a character who has taken leave of his senses. You're essentially asking why deranged people do insane things. It's because they're well, deranged. There are countless works of literature and film which wouldn't get past page 5 if everyone did the sensible thing, told the truth, went to the police, ...
